    Standalone SMG control

    Hi,
I'm interested in controlling my M3 SMG transmission with a standalone CAN controller, essentially emulating the smg control part of the MSS54.
I have the SMG in a test setup in the garage. I'm not too insterested in emulating the full auto modes, but would love to be able to shift (+clutch control if necessary).
How much of the shift process is controlled by the ECU vs TCU? Is the ECU controlling clutch engagement too or is it only requesting gears, and the TCU is doing the rest?

    Thank you

Does anyone have a recording of the SMG can bus? That would be a great starting point. Thank you

ProEFI offers a plus and play ecu for the e46m3 with SMG. It's the only aftermarket solution I know of.

Signal exchanges via SMG CAN bus:
        Engine Speed
        Engine Coolant Temp
        Engine Oil Temp
        Intake Air Temp
        PWG
        EDR Feedback Pots
        Wheel Speed
        Transverse Acceleration
        Steering Angle
        Cruise Status
        Parking Brake
        Door Contacts
        Brake Light Switch
        Key Memory

        SMG II Controller Inputs:
MFL (multi-function steering wheel, shift paddles)
        Shift lever
        DRIVELOGIC
        Longitudinal Acceleration
        General Module
        Clutch Position
        Shift Position
        Gearbox RPM
        Hydraulic Pressure
        Temperature Sensors
        Hood Contacts
        Engine Speed

        SMG II Controller Outputs:
        Shift Lock Mechanism
        EWS
        Hydraulic Unit

DME controls the shift sequence and regulates torque.
