They stopped doing OBD-I testing in MA in 2008. They also decided to stop OBD-II emissions testing for cars older than 15 years on a rolling basis, making all E36s exempt at this point here. Euro motor or S54 swap, here I come.Originally posted by camdinans3I don't know much about emissions testing outside new england. I'm just surprised that they test it on a car where they cannot also access an OBD2 port.

I mean, I kind of understand CA's rationale on this one. Perhaps not their implementation, but still. http://www.stateoftheair.org/2015/ci...ed-cities.htmlOriginally posted by M3n00bMan I'm jelly. Fuk this nazi state

Update...
The tuning guy called today... He checked the efficency of the cats, and they are dead... Note, I had installed a used OBD2 mid pipe years ago and welded in a percat O2 bung. I was using the simulated narrow band output of the wide band O2 sensor (precat) to feed the ecu. Well, it seems the narrow output is actually 1.2 lower than actual. Meaning that when it was saying 14.7, it was a really 13.5. Running really rich, and that killed the cats.
So the plan is to install the original obd1 midsection, (glad I'm a pack rat), install a new narrow band O2 sensor to feed the ecu, and check again. If all is good, I'll install a wide band in the exhaust manifold. Then have it all custom dyno tuned....
Whew...

New update.
John, (the tuning guy at At Speed Performance), had a nice chat with Karl at Active about the tuning Karl did for my car. Turns out that Karl used an incorrect scalar for the injectors.
So,, here's what they did.
Installed original OBD1 midsection. (glad I'm a pack rat). Welded another O2 bung and installed the wideband, and a stock narrowband. Narrow band is now feeding ECU. Corrected tuning,
Passed emissions with flying colors.
Will finalize tuning on dyno tomorrow.
So it wasn't a vacuum leak, it wasn't dirty injectors, or the TPS, or water temp senders, or idle control valve, or any of the other parts I tossed at it...lol
It was incorrect tuning that made it run rich, and that killed the cats.
I'll let you all know what the final bill comes too.
