What to Select (INPA) for the U.S. M3?

That drive was 100% ready for that cable you have. There's no need to mess with anything. Which partition are you using? I made two partitions, one for coding, one for diagnosing. Every time you turn it on you are prompted for the option.Originally posted by NolliM3I am indexing the laptop to see whether that helps.

That's not what he asked.Originally posted by Braymond141Nothing you need.
And Lol. Depends on what you want / need. If not now...
But ok if you want, 99% of people will be fine with a usb/adapter cable.
BMW Group Tester One diagnostics head. It's the hardware BMW dealers used up to aprox 2010.Originally posted by NolliM3What kind of interface is that?

So why bring it up other than to show off? You made it sound like it is easier to use than INPA. It is anything but... Not to mention price and how junk the replica head units are. INPA is a great tool, cheap and relatively easy to setup.Originally posted by M_ParallelThat's not what he asked.

That's only part of the hardware BMW used.

Well, I did a rebuild of indexing of partition one (C) and it seems to help somewhat...till unable to access however, now I am getting "command not accepted." It's progress...just wish I could find what IFH:0006 error is and it's not in the INPA FAQ. Anyone knows? Playing around, I was only able to access EWS, which had an error, doesn't seem a big deal...guessing...I cleared it (see pic).

There is not much to show off. It's not special, just informing about a different option that has advantages over usb adapter cables/not needing a serial port laptop/never have issues connecting to any module.Originally posted by Braymond141So why bring it up other than to show off? It's not for everyone, but not for no one, so just giving information.
Same as with ebay cables, there are good ones and junk ones. Same with second hand cars. You get what you pay for.
Don't know if mine is junk. Been using it since 2009 and never let me down.
Yeah I'm aware of the hardware, but this is the main part. The wireless tablet, numerous cables and the large station that stores all are not relevant. You need the interface. I don't need the multimeter function, among other stuff.
There are a few listed, from old dealer inventory. Cool if you have a workshop.
I make it sound like it's easier to use than INPA? Sorry easier opposed to what? I don't mention any other software.
The GT1 is just used as the interface between car and laptop. I use it with INPA, DIS, Progman, WinFTK and NCS Expert. Not saying anywhere one is easier to use than another. They all have pro's and cons and is selected based on what's to be done.

Just for reference this is the cable and seller where I got it (tiny ads). Yes requires a serial port not an adapter but fully works with dis, inpa, etc. I got a little 10" toughbook for $75 and it works great. It's a pen computer and I got pen working but can't get proper calibration in dis but still it has touchpad or hook a mouse up.

Well, doesn't really work on all E36es. The GT1 is mandatory for the S50B32 (INPA loses a LOT of functionality and doesn't seem to output correctly.) IIRC, the GT1 works a lot better (for the tiny amount that it'll actually do) on the OBDI cars as well.Originally posted by Braymond141So why bring it up other than to show off? I have both. INPA is great on newer cars, but the GT1 is great for E36es.

I haven't really messed around with E36s too much, but don't you need an ADS interface to connect to most modules on those? Something like this: http://openlabs.co/projects/Tiny-ADS-Interface

I agree and that's why I have one. I have done so little OBD1 work and usually grab the GT1 when I do. The simple limitations of INPA on older cars, like the dme, didn't occure to me (or the necessary cable). I would have thought DME module connectivity would be no issue though (this is what he is after).Originally posted by nrubensteinWell, doesn't really work on all E36es. I believe the tiny ads (as I linked and also another poster) has all the functionality of the diag head. I thought a GT1 was the whole floorstanding machine containing computer, touchscreen, and diag head? The yellow doodad I believe is correctly referred to as just a "diag head".
