That is true, they have nothing until 3k. If he rev it up then dropped it, he may be able to keep up until 60 ish, but from 10 mi. when RPM's are at about 1,500 to 2k, its got nothing.

I had some fun with an 03 WRX last WInter/Spring when I had my Mustang BUllitt.. Cold day, first race we started up hill (maybe a 10-15 degree incline) That WRX got the jump on me good... but even when I left trac on and granny shifted out of first I would catch him in 3rd around 70-80 mph and literally blow by him to a good 1-2 length win at around 100-110... Later when we were on level ground it wasnt even a contest anymore, one time we kept it going up to about 120-130.. I was waaaay out in front, and both cars have the same numbers on paper. I havent ever driven an M3 but I think with even a half-decent hole shot you should take him no prob.
I think you said it was a 97 or 98 Maxima??? They had around 190hp.. New ones are fun as hell to drive SE with 6spd manual... 265 HP and they arent too heavy either.. just ugly as sin especially the interior. Wonder what it would pull in the 1/4.
BTW.. IMO if you have the cash to put up, then do it... I would never bet someone to race for cash.. but if they were to bet me I would take the chance unless I am sure I cant win

Acutally Maxima's can be pretty quick. Amlost as quick as a 330i. The '03 Max SE with a 6sp can do 0-60 in 6.0 and 1/4 in 14.7@96. Not bad for a "family" car. My dad used to own a '97 SE with an auto. It beat my friends WRX to 40mph. Again, not bad. Their engines have one "10 best engines" award a few years in a row. Austin

Oh...the new maximas are beasts. They'd be better with RWD obviously because 265 hp or so to the front wheel is just crazy.
The old Max's aren't that impressive compared to new cars though. Things change a bit when you toss in that 222hp engine of theirs.
There was a hilarious quote about that Ward's thing actually.
They said, since the new M3 engine came out. What they did was put the M3 engine on the list then figure out the 9 best engines. That was a quote from Ward's in some piece of BMW literature at the dealer. I liked that.

The Max's now need what the G35 Sedan offers, the AWD(all wheel drive) system. That would help transfer that power to the ground, w/o roasting the tires right off. My dad was looking for a new car a few months ago, and drove the G35, and really liked it. But it only came in rear wheel drive. Here is Eastern Washington, rear drive is not a good idea. So we went with an Audi A4 Quattro. It has the 1.8T with a manual....The little engine can power that car pretty well! (for a 4 cylinder, I know its nothing compared to a M3 or WRX, but not bad for that little engine and weighting in at almost 3,500lbs.) We raced a manual S4 for on our way back from Tacoma, we got toasted, but we stayed behind him until about 80-85. Then my dad gave up. We passed him going around the speed limit (60) then the S4 guy got off of his phone and blew by us about 3 miles later, so then my dad went for it. Thats how the race started. He was probably going about 100mph when we backed off about 85. (I would have kept going, but my dad is 50, so, he's not a "speed racer" anymore, and doesn't want a ticket mainly. Just thought I'd tell you all that, haha.
