The S2k really does have a better gearbox according to pretty much everyone.

What the S2k lacks is torque. They just aren't as fun to drive around town.

I suppose this is a bit off topic though because the NSX is on a totally different level.

I'm sure anyone who hasn't driven the NSX might haf a different opinion after experiencing it, I certainly did.

I would compare the Boxter to the S2K and compare the F335 to the NSX. You can't really make comparisons between the M3/NSX since they serve different purposes.

            1. i doubt it.

            2. aftermarket vs. stock? apples and oranges. F/I the M3 then compare.

            3. true.

            4. youre kidding.

            5. gas milage.. non factor vs. fun factor.

            6. subjective.

            7. lol youre kidding.

I like to add fuel to the fire. I also have a Honda (bone stock) in my garage that I'd put up against my M3 (bone stock) any day (actually, the M3 doesn't get the other garage space, that's for my wife's LR).

            1. My Honda is a lot newer than the M3, so it's hard to say whether it's just general improvements that naturally occur over time, but the Honda just feels better screwed together than the M3.

            2. Bone stock vs. bone stock, my Honda is faster. It's a totally different type of driving (high (9000) rpm horsepower vs. immediate torque), but that's why they make manually shifting transmissions, isn't it? Magainze race it, put it on the track, whatever, the Honda is faster.

            3. Enough said.

            4. Again, bone stock vs. bone stock, I'd give the nod to the Honda, but only barely. I can take the same corners marginally faster in the Honda than the M3 (I go out all the time to compare). The Honda feels more firmly planted, although maybe it's just that there's less weight to push off course.

            5. Personally, I'd say superior (maybe just newer) technology. I get the same hp in both cars (torque obviously isn't even close), but WAY better mileage in the Honda, even beating the snot out of the VTEC.

            6. Not even close. Not even the same ballpark.

            7. This I would say is subjective. Personally, I like both. The Honda gets A LOT more attention and, in my mind, is just about the perfect expression of the concept. The M3, in my mind, is understated but classic. Only someone who knows what "M" stands for knows what's lurking underneath. I like that.

That being said, I love both cars. Each has its strong points, and each has its weaknesses. Let the flames begin. I'm new. I can take it.

The S2K is a great car, my only complaints are that it is too tiny and the dunno wht the japs were thinking when they designed the audio console.

I'm not "brand loyal" and like to experience as many high performance vehicles as I can while I'm on this earth. Being I keep a car a year tops I'm gonna have to try the NSX. Sure it's a honda but look at it and what you are getting for your buck. It is the only honda I like. They are good everyday cars who like to think they are fast etc. I drove a S2 and hated it, felt slow as hell. I"m not looking for practical and when I do I will just have to go with the M5

I agree the S2K is too small, although I'm only 5'7" so I fit pretty well. That's the main reason I got the M3/4. The S2K is not a good daily driver. Hell, I even had Blizzak LM-22s on the damn thing and drove it through winter. Not pretty.

As far as the audio, it's not just the console that sucks. They shouldn't have even bothered putting a stereo in at all if they were going to make it so shitty. I have never seen a crappier audio system from a manufacturer. And in a convertible no less. It's totally inexcusable.

On the other hand, the NSX has an amazing interior with good BOSE sound system.

an E36 M3 is pretty much just as fast on the track as an early-mid 90s NSX. they are pretty much equal performers. however, the NSX, as others have said, does have a lot more 'woah' factor for most people. most people will think it's a ferrari or something. it's very rare. it is an extremely well built and well designed car. i'm glad i have my M3 but if i had been able to find a nice one and been able to raise my budget a bit more, i'd be driving an NSX right now.

the S2000 is a great car as well, i couldn't find a nice one for the price i wanted and i'm glad i have my M anyway as it is definitely more fun around town, and faster on the track.

i'm 6'1 and have no problems fitting in an S2k.

If you are 6'1 you would look 100x better driving the N instead.

This might be a bit off topic and i dont know much about the NSX.

However someone mentioned that its a 90 k car , isn't the m5 going to be a 90 k car as well ? price to price isn't the m5 the better deal.

for those people who are all about name the m5 can win out.

for performence the m5 would win out.

                          for praticality m5 for sure

but looks although subjective i'd have to NSX.

reliabilty would probably fall into the NSX

since from what i can gather from reading the posts the NSX and E46 m3 isn't too much difference with the E46 taking the top marginally. Wouldn't the NSX be significantly over priced ? Espeically if the m5 which is faster and rarer than an m3 is priced the same as an NSX.

NSX was first introduced in 1990, latest M5 comes 14 yrs later.. Can't really compare the two this way. Nothing is over priced if you have the dough.

The M5 is like the ultimate sports sedan vs. the NSX which is a pure sports car. Totally different goals, though that new V10 is going to be amazing.

why do you say that? do you mean instead of the S2k or instead of an M3?

also the new M5 will weigh in ~4,000 lbs. the NSX weighs ~3,000 (early ones are 2,800lbs.) the NSX is also discontinued, though you can still probably find a few new ones laying around.

the last NSX Type-R was truly amazing, and cost almost the same as the M3 CSL. the last NSX Type-R had an almost entirely carbon fibre body.
