Help with Karbonius CSL box install

Does anyone know if the black rings on the karb box are supposed to come off? I managed to screw one off and screw my old throttle body boot over it but the rest are glued tight.

I'm not sure if thoes are supposed to come off or not but you should still be using the an intake boot. The throttle bodies shouldn't be directly attached to the air box, the boots should go over the throttle body and over the black orings

The plastic OEM style trumpets that Karbonius sources from a guy in Germany have the threaded rings like the original airbox. Just reinstall the ring and then install the rubber boot.

        From old air box

        Nice choice in box
Where did you source it from if you don’t mind me asking

I tried putting the old boots on over the rings but it didn’t fit right. Went to Lowe’s to get a strap wrench and it worked like a charm. Use thick tape if you’re going to do this though as I accidentally scratched the finish using painters tape Click image for larger version

Box sourced from a group buy on M3f about 4 years ago... yes it took me that long to do the install...

Some intakes take different style boots

My car with 09/04 production could reuse the stock boots. My friend’s car with 10/04 production needed new boots as they were too small. We believe that this is the date cutoff.

Thanks for the replies! Boots weren’t the issue here. It was the rings on the box. Old boots worked perfectly once I got the rings off

I never get tired of seeing carbon airboxes man.

I do get a heartsink disappointment when I see a stock airbox though

I used Covid-19’s map kit and running csl software tuned by Hassan. Stalled twice, then fired up on the third start. Drive ability was a little rough at first but it smoothed out. I gotta do the Csl smg programming now that the DME is expecting it. No hesitation tho!

I run the same MAP kit, great setup. It should smooth out as the car figures out what's going on.

Good stuff. I’m trying to put off a full dyno tune until I can source some euro cats/headers. Hopefully some free up once the ss group buy happens.
