I had the same experience years ago with the original Ventus V12's on an E36. They were deplorably bad. The sidewalls were almost as mushy as a winter tire...

I had the same problem and went down that rabbit hole. I ended up with the Continental ExtermeContact Sports and have been extremely happy with them. They have a fantastic warranty, cost 25% less than the PS4s, are excellent in the rain, and are a very good summer tire with lots of grip.

Awesome, thanks, good reading, going with ECS's. Seems like best option if I need something immediately, which I do.

I’ve got PS4S on my E46 M3 and recently upgraded my PSS tires on my E39 M5 to the PS4S as well. You won’t find a better set of tires for the money in my opinion.

we’ve got extreme contact DWS on my wife’s Range Rover....those are pretty awesome too with great ride comfort but a bit noisy though.

God dammit: Ordered Conti ECS from TireRack last weekend, and they promised Tuesday delivery (via ontrac). I dropped my car off at a tire shop in LA on Sunday because I'm in NYC for work this week.

Ontrac has delayed delivery of the tires every day with the same generic bs. Friday, still no tires and no idea when they'll show up.

I really need the car when I get back into tomorrow, but I also need new tires installed.

Any advice on what to do here? Shop that has my car said they tried to source locally and couldn't because COVID's made everything crazy.

If anyone in LA knows how I can get a proper set of tires delivered to the shop fast I would be forever grateful!

Discount Tire offers money back guarantee if you're not satisfied. Maybe you can find something that'll do in a pinch in stock then take them back when your Conti's are in.

I'm on Michelin performance all-season tires year round, as I never push my car harder than what the tires can handle in any season, and I have endless dreams of a salt-free winter where I can continue to operate the car normally year round. E39 and my wife's Civic see actual salted roads.

Well, one week after initial promised delivery, OnTrac is still just pushing back delivery every day and giving zero info. TireRack opened investigation with them, got nothing.

Ordered a replacement set of PSS from TireRack because they were the best thing that it seems like I can get delivered this week. Praying they get here by Thursday because I need to drive up to the bay for work.

Not that I can change my mind at this point, but how are PSS compared to the ECS'? I'm definitely getting a much worse deal (PSS cost more than PS4S), and I know that PSS are objectively worse than PS4S in every way. But are they also worse than ECS?

Lol plot twist: spoke to OnTrac yesterday and they said the ECS's were lost at this point. But then, sure enough, they show up delivered to the shop an hour later (and 7 full days late). So the ECS are on the car now, and the PSS are going back to TireRack when they arrive tomorrow. Seems like this is the better outcome given that the ECS were ~$300 cheaper after rebate, and apparently I've heard that the "Star BMW" variant of the PSS (which is what I'd ordered) are actually even inferior to the generic PSS (difference in sidewall stiffness and inferior quality control, or something?). Guess I'll have to wait another couple of years before getting the PS4S experience.

Frustrating week, but all's well that ends well.

Moral of the story: good tires are very, very annoying to get right now, so order earlier than you need to and make sure the tires are delivered before you drop off your car!!

If you have a chance, take a look at the date codes on the PSS when they come in. I'm curious how old they are.

Pondering new tires. Not sure why people say Contis are that much less than Michelin, it's only about $200 or less difference. Plus tire lost badly in latest TR test. So not sure why anyone would take over the 4S.

The Conti ECS, with discount, can be had for half the cost of the Michelins and has PSS levels of performance and comfort (Not PS4, but still very good).

Where are you seeing those prices? On TR right now, using 235/19 and 265/19 sizes the prices are: PSS $1,334 PS4 $1,262 CCS $1,246 That must be some discount. Continental has jacked up its price to Michelin levels.
