    400 bhp

I've finally sorted some issues I've been chasing, and got used to the power & handling of the car after some years, so now I am comfortable exploring power mods. Motor was rebuilt using 100% OEM parts so that is what will be supporting these mods.

I have 400hp in mind as a goal. Car is used occasionally for spirited driving & track.

It seems like CSL Airbox, Cams, & a tune will get me close. Also saw somewhere on here that stock injectors can support up to 340bhp. What else should I consider to support 400hp?

Every bolt on and Hassan'd... you'll prob get like 385-390

The comment that stock injectors can support up to 340hp isn't right. It wouldn't be right if it were 340whp, either.

Add SS V1's to the list

I'm assuming you are looking for 400whp, not 400bhp...

Hassan's car does around 390whp, which is well north of 400bhp.

You can look at adding e85 to get you north of 400whp. Do your research and figure out your comfort level with it, there are pros and cons.

Also, since you have threshold in your head, it would be well worth doing a baseline dyno run before any mods.

And add to the list specifically a PCS Tune (or Hassan), not just any tune.

This will get you ~475whp and would be cheaper than all the NA bolt ons IF you don't mind a supercharged E46 M3.

I consider these kits but just wonder how much more you would need to spend beefing up the drivetrain as to not beat the hell out of it. One "good" thing about the SC's is they don't produce massive amounts of torque so if you didn't launch it all the time maybe the stock components could handle a 525 or 575 kit.

Sure would be a blast, until something broke.

400 crank hp (bhp) ~= 330-335 whp. Easy, these days.

Appreciate everyone chiming in. I was just looking to get to 400hp at the crank. Seems like 400whp is easily do able these days so I will keep all posted.

Starting with an airbox no question.

You mean "400 bhp is easily doable...". I know it's not cheap but if one had to quantify, how much are we talking to go from the stock 333 bhp North America variant to 400 bhp naturally aspirated using the fewest(not necessarily cheapest), most tasteful, "true enthusiast" mods? Basically turning the factory bhp rated number to become the new whp number as Obi stated.

SSV1s, airbox and tune are probably the minimum mods required. Total would be around $5-6k (without cats and with the Turner box).
                        • ~$2300 for V1s
                        • ~$400 for SS section 1 (add ~$1700 if you want cats)
                        • ~$1600 for the Turner box (add ~$500 if you want Karbonius or ~$7k if you want genuine BMW)
                        • ~$600 for the tune (depends on tuner and dyno rates)
                        • ~$500-1000 in misc parts/hardware
                        • Optional: add ~$1500 for cams if you want to get even more power (and ~$2k for followers if you chose to swap those out too)

You might be able to get similar results with other headers, but the V1s are the best flowing headers out there. Euro headers would be cheaper, but I don't think they'll get you to 400bhp (see: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/m...r-yuge-numbers).

NA engines are definitely not cheap to get more power out of.

I don't disagree with any of your recommendations; if I were starting over that's the path I'd follow except I'd go for Karbonius right from the get

                          That said, I am running:
                          -SGT V3 Ceramic Coated headers
                          -Euro Sect 1
                          -Stock 2/3
                          -Turner CSL Box
                          -HTE custom tune

And I'm putting down 335whp/252whtq on 91 pisswater

Did you dyno your car before any of those mods?

The car in the thread I linked put down 290 whp stock and 332 whp with an airbox and euro headers. If we take BMW's claim that the engine makes 333 bhp stock, 332 whp would correlate to 381 bhp —not quite 400.

Not saying that's the case with yours, but unless you put the car on the dyno when it was completely stock, bhp is only a guess (not that I think it really matters, but that's what the OP is asking about).

What kind of dyno in what mode? “335whp” in isolation is a pretty meaningless statement.
