    VAC Oil pump shaft upgrade?

Is it necessary? I know this was kind of an issue on the m54s, and people still kinda talk about it on the s54, but is it actually an issue? I understand VAC parts can be a hit or miss, so I’m just wondering if this is a completely unnecessary upgrade, and if tack welding the nut is good enough.

I have not heard of this being an issue. Most people add a very small drop of red loctite and torque it to spec. It seems like it was brought over from the E36M guys similar to the cooling system issues.

100% unnecessary. Also, probably worse than stock, being a VAC part.

Had a pinch of locktite added when I got my rod bearings done last month. I was told that it was overkill for the s54.

I put a drop of locktite and torqued to spec when rebuilding my s54. Never had an issue. Never heard of it being an issue. Only did that as I was in there.
