Just look for early 2000s Mini batteries. Should be H5 size. I just looked for the lightest one that was available locally. I think I ended up getting mine at O'Reilly's.2001 TiAG M3 - 6mt Coupe, Anthracite Impuse - SOLD

I put an Optima Red Top in my M3 about 6 years ago. It stays on a trickle charger. Have never had an issue and it's a bit lighter than the factory unit. I'm sure there is a reason why Optima is a bad idea, never researched it when I out the battery in...
I run Odyssey in racecars and have had tremendous success with them (they have never failed).Build thread: Topaz Blue to Shark Blue

I don't think there's anything wrong with OPTIMA, I have a Red Top in both my cars with the BimmerWorld mounting bracket. Might not be as much of a weight saving as the Mini battery. I'll be honest, I don't drive my e36 sometimes for a month or more and I do not leave it on a trickle charger. It starts every time without fail.
