What batteries do people recommend for the coupe?

Depends on desired outcome. You can shed a significant amount of weight with a lithium battery.

I think the CSL/Mini battery is the best of both worlds.

        Mini Cooper battery.

If you were a track rat - you wouldn't be asking the question.

Just look for early 2000s Mini batteries. Should be H5 size. I just looked for the lightest one that was available locally. I think I ended up getting mine at O'Reilly's.

Learn something new daily. Didn't know that about the Mini Coop battery.

I put an Optima Red Top in my M3 about 6 years ago. It stays on a trickle charger. Have never had an issue and it's a bit lighter than the factory unit. I'm sure there is a reason why Optima is a bad idea, never researched it when I out the battery in...

I run Odyssey in racecars and have had tremendous success with them (they have never failed).

I don't think there's anything wrong with OPTIMA, I have a Red Top in both my cars with the BimmerWorld mounting bracket. Might not be as much of a weight saving as the Mini battery. I'll be honest, I don't drive my e36 sometimes for a month or more and I do not leave it on a trickle charger. It starts every time without fail.

I've had a mini battery from one of the parts chains for almost 10 years now. I keep it on the charger over the winter, but mine might not run for a couple weeks at a time and it's been fine. It'll probably go bad any day now, and I'll replace it with one of the super light lithium options.

What’s the significance behind getting the Mini Cooper battery?

it's like 10lbs lighter or something and costs 1/2 as much as an OE.

I have an H5 battery on my M coupe, it has sat for about 8 weeks and started right up... but ideally you need a trickle charger for any battery seating for long periods anyhow.

This has been my experience with it as well. Trickle charge in the winter, otherwise, never had an issue. And i have an aftermarket amp installed, so it can handle that as well
