The error code pointing to the EX cam sensor, so I meant to check the volt on the cam sensor, not crank S. Yes, manually turn the crank to turn the cams, with voltmeter, not INPA or other apps.

Right, sorry, I it was a typo when I said crank sensor, I meant cam.

I put jumper wires on the signal and ground, and hooked them up to my multimeter with the sensor plugged in. Remove fuel pump fuse, and i also pulled the coil packs and spark plugs for this (maybe unnecessary) - and put a 32mm socket on the crank, and slowly turning with key in 2nd pos, i saw the voltage go from 0v>5v>0v>5v and so on... from what i gathered, this means the sensor is functioning as intended
Thanks!! It'll be a few days before I have time to get the shroud fan clutch off and do this.

In the meantime, because I had a new ebox fan sitting around, I decided to take the old broken one out and install the new. Cleared codes (which now have grown to include a intake air pressure code, I assume relating to the MAP sensor), and went out and ran some errands. No SES light, and no codes have come back after 30 mixed city/highway miles.

Based on OP's documented experience, I doubt I'm out of the woods, but let's see. Maybe I'll wait to see if they come back before I test the cam sensor.

"-When I clear the codes, they all come back quickly (just like OP)" from previous post

        .
Did the code come back quickly even with a cold engine? Then I don't see how a new efan fix the codes as the DME was cold and not overheated due to bad efan.

Yeah agree completely. Back when I was resetting the codes and they were coming back right away, I can't remember if the engine was hot or cold. Again, it could likely be a coincidence that the codes went away with the ebox fan fix. Time will tell!

A few hundred miles later, no codes have come back. Will update if they ever do.

So what step in your work that you think it might have fixed the "EX cam sensor out of sync with crank sensor" issue?

None. I mean I did my rod bearings last weekend, but we both know that's not related My hope is that it was spurious and maybe a weird DME/electrical gremlin, but based on OP's experience, that likely isn't the case. We'll see when it happens again. Probably can't get in there again to test the cam sensor until September :<
