With the nord lock or any other solution, how do you guys account for the fact that the bolt comes with a washer (married solution, the washer will not slide off the bolt threads) and the surface between the bolt head and the top of the washer is smooth and can still back off almost 1/4" even if the bottom of the washer is "superglued" to the side of the bushing surface? In the pic, where I'm holding the bolt with my fingers is where this nord lock will go, which will ensure that the original washer and bushing don't move relative to each other, but washer to bolt head is smooth...

Do you remove the original washer and replace it with this nord lock to make sure the head of the bolt relative to the bushing doesn't move?

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

Smaller nord lock between washer and head of the bolt

To be completely honest, I can't remember what I did, but I do remember thinking about the same thing. Since I have a bigger bolt (i.e. not the stock one with integrated washer), I might have just removed the regular washer I used and replaced it with the nord lock.

Regardless, I don't really see an issue with cutting off the washer and replacing with the nord lock.

Also wondering the same thing. Depends on the bushing being used as well.

Definitely need to cut the married washer off the bolt (or replace with equiv size/grade/length bolt) for the nord lock to work as intended. I use these nord lock washers for smaller applications but never thought to use them for larger bolts.

I didnt see a nord lock design that looks like a c that can slide over the bolt to fit between the washer and the head, I think they are all regular washer o shaped.

Yeah prob cut off the original...

Yeah stock bushing has plenty of metal surface to take a large washer, even if oversized.

I guess cutting the original washer it is...

Oh I was just messing around.

Was in the garage anyway, so took a quick peek under the car. I did indeed use the nord lock in place of a regular washer.

Yeeep. Original threads were destroyed, so smallest bolt I could get in there was an M20. At least it'll never break I guess

It was tough to get the socket and torque wrench on the upper rear bolts (tight against floor). The etorx sockets are a bit tall, but I found that a 6 point 7/16" socket fit the etorx bolt perfectly and was short enough to fit. I used my TechAngle to get the 90 degrees. For anyone shopping for affordable angle measuring torque wrenches Home Depot now offers one for $159.00.

I have the CMP bushings as well. For the front bolt I believe I used a short socket and a short swivel extension. It was a bit nerve wracking. I wish I had heard about the nord locks before I put it together.
                    Old, not obsolete.

About to cut off married washer on front diff. bolt and replace with a Nord Lock washer but wonder if the smaller diameter is a negative?

nord makes a normal and enlarged washer for M14. Which one did you get?

Whats the diameter of the married washer?

I don’t think the diameter of the washer should matter as long as it bites well into the bushing surface.

Only 2mm larger than factory washer, I'd sure like to get my car together and not wait another 4-5 days for new washers, but on the other hand want to get it right.

Did you use one of these and was it the standard or enlarged?

Edit; I used what I had (normal size nord lock + loctite 243) and I'll report back if it should loosen down the road.

not aware of anyone using these yet. i think you’re going to be the experiment.

you should paint mark it and inspect
