Temporarily running the CSL Software with 272/280 CatCams

Recently did some work on the E46 including rod bearings, VANOS rebuilt, 272/280 CatCams, valve adjustment etc. and about to install a full 2.5" exhaust (SS V1 headers + SS section 1 + SS dual pipe section 2 + Dinan section 3) as well as the Turner air box + MAP conversion. I wanted everything to synchronize and break in for about a 1,000 miles (2 weeks of commute to work for me) before getting on a dyno for a tune session.

I wanted to know if it would be safe to run the factory CSL software with the 272/280 cams, which are obviously different than the CSL 268/264 cams? Thanks in advance.

In typical forum fashion, I won't answer your question and instead offer a tangentially related suggestion

If you're planning on getting a dyno tune, why not just ask your tuner for a base map that you can drive your car around with? They will give you one anyway when you go to the dyno and then do revisions on it from dyno data. Should be no extra work for them and no extra cost for you.

Throughout the years I have used off the shelves tunes (Dinan, Frank Smith, Technica, Active) for simple modes like an intake or headers. This will really be my first time actually tuning on a dyno, I didn’t want to pay twice for something I will use for a thousand miles or 2-3 weeks

Makes sense, but you shouldn't need to pay twice.

For a dyno tune, your tuner should be giving you a base map tailored to your mods so that you can drive up to the dyno. Then you'll do some dyno runs and the tuner will adjust the tune based on what the dyno shows.

You should be able to just ask for the base map in advance. I did just this with my PCS tune not too long ago.

It's fine just don't go full throttle.

It will be fine. I ran csl dme software with 280/272 cams for well over 2k km. Gave it a bit of a hard time. Nothing bad happened. Then had PCS do a custom remote tune

Hassan doesn't charge twice. He sends you a base map, and then you go tune it. You just pay up front and it's not a bad price.
