I don't know who posted this but thank you from the bottom of my heart. This thread is quite the dumpster fire. As a prior Porsche tech, I saw some many things lacking required special tools or requiring a special method that the OP didn't bother trying to figure out. Over the course of 3 days I read through this thread and one thing I can say is I'm glad he doesn't own an E46 M3 anymore.

Surprised there wasn't a custom shift knob featured somewhere on there, though - I couldn't stomach to go past the first page. Perhaps it makes the appearance later.

I had a shop almost butcher mine many years ago. Also had a "friend" grab a grinder to my rear spring perch to remedy something while the back was jacked up. So both shops and friends are equally capable of fucking things up. Both of these were 15 years ago, however.
