Will a Rear View mirror from a Z4 fit our M3?

The original Oval mirror in my 2001 recently fall apart from age and I was looking at replacing it with a Oval Mirror from a Z4. Will this directly fit without any issues?

Yes, from what I recall, the updated part is the Z4 mirror - https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/51169142225/

Yes, I bought a manual dimming Z4 mirror off eBay and it fit right up. I can’t recall if I had to open it up to transfer wiring and keyless entry receiver. Looks fine in the car.

Good to know. I was looking at a Auto-Dimming version. How does the manual dim version function?

I disliked this feature so much, that I put a tiny piece of black electric tape over the sensor. At night, I found the dimming from headlights made the reflection too dark to see other cars satisfactorily. Not only that, but some were prone to leaking all over our pretty interiors. I can only assume that has been addressed for good.

On the unit I got, the red plastic “clown nose” is grey and twists 1/4 turn to angle the mirror surface. It’s nice looking, I have control of the “dim”, and it’s leak-proof!

Yes, but if you have SOS mirror on your M3 DO NOT PLUG IT IN. It will explode....literally. Ask me how I know that. Look up a tutorial about what wires to cut or relocate if you have SOS.

Unless you want autodim feature, highly recommend going with manual dimming version in that shape; Its a lot cheaper while future-issue-proofing at the same time.

Screw auto-dim. I use e34/e36/e38 manual, rectangular mirrors. Very light, simple. Big view.

No SOS in my M3. 4/01 build.

That's what happened in my original oval mirror. It leaked and I had it sent out to be repaired. It worked for a while then went bad again. From what I understand BMW started using a different company for the auto dim mirrors after 04?

That rings a bell, but I can't swear to it. That said, I'm pretty sure it was addressed in some form or fashion, but I suppose you could still get a leftover bad one, I guess.

I’m a big fan of the auto dimming, surprised to hear people don’t like it. It’s next level in the E39 though since it dims the side mirrors too. Too many big stupid trucks and SUVs out there these days to not have it.
