Nothing lightweight enough to make the jump from 18" worth it. But I was looking at the possibility of having some 5x114.3 redrilled to 5x120. It opens up the options big time

I’ve seen a number of folks running offsets that give up 10+mm of clearance inside, and unfortunately the 17” wheel selection really doesn’t help this issue. I’d love an OEM looking 17x9 et40-42 wheel to run a 255/40 or 45/17 front - I think that’d be a really nice balance of tire width/grip, unsprung rotating weight, clearance, comfort and scrub radius/feel.
Also worth mentioning that the taller sidewall is more progressive near the limit. This comes at the cost of some responsiveness but is part of the trade.Last edited by Bry5on; 08-13-2022, 07:58 AM.‘02 332iT / 6 | ‘70 Jaguar XJ6 electric conversion

Reviving this thread...
I have a square set 17x10 ARC-8's with 275/40/17 RT660's that are due for replacement. My original thought was 275 NTO1's but I see many mentions of running 255/40/17 vs 275. Is 255 enough tire for the heavy E46 M3 on track? A 255 RE71RS is roughly the same cost as a 275 NTO1, but my fender liners would probably appreciate the 255's up front.
My car is a street car with all the accouterments, but with Ohlins R/T and a bunch of other bits and bobs to make the suspension bearable on street, and good on track.

i think you’ll be ok though. I’d be curious to hear if the RR660 is faster than an NT01. But a 275 660 is a little less than an NT01.
