    KARBONIUS E46 Hood

Just saw this on FB and Insta. Looks awesome and no doubt will be a quality product. Looking forward to seeing this installed on someone's M3.

I also really like the MK Trackparts Hood https://www.mk-motorsportteile.de/en...3-e46-gtr-vent but it seems to be a race application more than a street using hood pins. Not sure if it'll be good on just the OE hood latches.

The Karb, Will focus more on OE style fitment and usage of hood latches.

Agreed, a lot like the Mk one, but a bit "softer", quality may also be a bit better but the first few batches will have issues for sure. Like many have said, really glad we're seeing this influx of quality parts come out.

Are those vents? Or are they just grooves? Im guessing vents.

I wonder if they will offer different styles? Like this one, a more OEM one, and a GTR? I doubt we will see all three but curious.

I wonder how the weight compares to stock.

The stock alu hood is light enough that a lot of the crappy CF hoods (which Karbonius is not) are heavier than stock.

That is because every aftermarket hood is actually fiberglass with carbon fiber overlay to give the carbon appearance.

Mostly likely Karbonius will produce an actual full carbon fiber hood which could provide weight savings.

The question will be how much weight savings compared to price. If the hood is full carbon, I would except the price to be over $2000.

MK is 1325Eur, 2k USD would be a touch high imo, but hey what do I know.

There is no way that the hood they produce is full carbon fiber for an extra 200 euros. It’s probably fiberglass with carbon overlay like every other hood out there.

Karbonius is different as they can produce products in full carbon fiber not fiberglass with carbon overlays like everyone else.

Slon's hood is full carbon and a claimed 11 pounds lighter than stock. their trunk is lighter than what karbonius was able to manage with theirs

Seibon is documented to be heavier than stock and unlikely to be the only one but most aftermarket hoods are partial carbon and around 5 pounds lighter than stock.

i just cant get over the goofy styling elements Karbonius is deciding to add to their E46 M3 parts. first the fenders now this hood. hopefully they include stock looking options

Fenders yes, this hood most definitely no looks proper and tasteful, but please believe there will be people that will want the fins in CF which would be atrocious. The GTR style hood imo would only work with a body kit akin to the real GTR, so something from Flossman, and at that point you're 10k deep in full body kit which I'm not after.

Also waiting on details, anything that takes weight off the front of the car is pretty much top priority along with parts that will stiffen the front as well. Slon is a bit extreme, I dont think this will be as light, we have the trunk as an example. However Slon themselves have sacrificed panel rigidity in the name of weight, as outlined in one of their posts. So there's that as well.

Bonus hot air venting, which I already do when going to the track by removing my cabin air filter housing, freen hood vent and minus 10lbs or so.

I run the MK on mine with stock hood latches. Works without an issue.

MKK is very light and looks good from the outside, but the inside is not a show and shine finish. Though I don't really care about the inside since I don't drive with my hood open 😁

Is yours the CF version, if so is it full CF and would you happen to have weight data on it vs OEM?

It's full CF. MK doesn't make the fiberglass version anymore. I didn't write it down, but I think it was 3,5 kg. OEM should be 14 kg.

It's literally light where you lift it with one finger.

Though the MK is not made in an autoclave.

I asked Karbonius on IG if they will make a stock CF hood and they said it's not a priority for them but they can.

That is a considerable weight savings. Does the piece oscillate at speed, hows the rigidity etc.

Personally I prefer running no hood.

                              Bare it all.
