Has Anyone Purchased the New Valvetronic Sport Exhaust

In my opinion, the exhaust sound and overall noise (or lack thereof) of the E46 M3 has been one of the most disappointing aspects of owning this car. It's great for every day driving but as a third car I want it to sound different than your average daily driver. I've spent a little time researching exhausts but every time I do there doesn't seem to be a consensus on a setup other than stock that doesn't produce drone or rasp. It also seems that it would be great to have a modern exhaust where you can make it loud or quiet when you want.

So after once again being frustrated with the sound I started googling and found that Valvetronic has a new valved sport exhaust that appears to do exactly what I want it to. Has one purchased this yet? I would love to have some feedback on it.

+1 for airbox over the valved exhaust.

Check this thread out regarding the Valvetronics section 3. One of our members posted sound clips and there are a few youtube videos linked as well.

        Another vote for airbox.

Or, sell the vehicle and get a GT350, if you want a good exhaust noise.

Wow, three votes for an airbox over an exhaust. That is somewhat surprising but I had definitely read similar opinions elsewhere in the forums. I guess I need to start looking at the CSL carbon style airboxes again.

If you don’t like any of the exhaust notes that are available, and there are A Lot of different configurations, then air box is the way. I love the sound of the car both intake and exhaust and I spent a long time figuring out which path I wanted to go with it. DYOR; everyone has different set-ups and they are posted all over YT.

I have the air box and the valvetronic exhaust.
with the valve open it’s obnoxious loud, to the point you can’t hear the air box. When it hits 5k RPM “Oh Boy” it’s loud! The Drone is ok for me. Might be to loud for someone else.
              It’s still raspy
Now with the valve closed, it still louder than scza muffler I had it, and you can hear the beautiful sound of the csl air box.
the reason I think its raspy, its because I have a
              Megan race catless headers.
              I’m happy with it.

Yet another vote for the airbox. Don't you dare remove the stock muffler either- its design helps prevent the rear bumper cover from parachuting and gives you some slight ground effect.

In their official videos it sounded quite loud on the white car with the custom headers installed. If I did the exhaust I think I would stick with stock headers. However after all of these votes I'm seriously considering the CSL inbox although that will probably be at least an extra $1500 over what the exhaust will cost. But you do get some extra HP in addition to a nicer sound.

I live in Denver and the car has never felt fast to me and the altitude calculators say that I'm losing at least 50hp due to lack of oxygen. Maybe the increased airflow from an airbox could help a little with that loss. One more reason to look at the airbox.

Airbox + tune (required to run the airbox) and you'll be a happy camper

^^^^ This. I never understood the aftermarket smaller mufflers leaving such an open area behind the rear bumper for that parachuting effect. The OEM muffler actually seals the back of the car up with its shape. This is another reason why I went with the Supersprint street muffler.

Also another vote for airbox. This car’s exhaust note is terrible unfortunately, no matter which muffler you choose.

The exhaust tips hurt my soul.

The S54 will never sound conventionally good.

That's a part of owning the car.

Like a GT350 will never not be 17ft long and have no torque.

                            Compromises must be made.

Boosted the S54 sounds pretty rad I won't lie.

But for an exhaust setup that's kinda the best for the dollar: Catless headers, Resonated Sec 1, Stock Sec 2, RE El Diablo.

From a flow point of view, I don't understand the Valvetronic exhaust at all. The sharp bends and immediate 2 to 1 seem extremely restrictive. Either way, Valvetronic Design's exhausts are all just relabeled Alibaba Chinese exhausts with a drastic markup.

                              Airbox all day.
