Yeah its getting all kinds of F***ed up just like injectors for the our cars and other models like my X5M. They have tripled in the last 2 years. BMW needs to get this shit sorted out or they will start losing business.

It's interesting to look at parts I've bought even a year ago to now price wise, the differences are astonishing.

BMW doesn't give a shit about old cars apparently, or maybe I have it all wrong and it's the parts manufacturers.

It's really starting to become an issue for me monetarily, once inexpensive parts I'd usually tag on to existing orders just to have an extra or replace are just way too expensive to justify anymore not to mention the things we need to keep these running.

          Sorry for the off-topic rambling

Shift knob -884 gets another vote.

$87 right now at Schmiedmann. https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/produ...5-11-7-896-884

Something is going on with US parts distribution more so than pricing from BMW actually increasing that much.

How often do folks need to replace their shift knob though?

You gotta be doing a lot more than shifting to wear it out anytime in the next 10 years...

What is the boot solution with running this knob?

BMW has the alcantara or imitation leather shift boot for the standard E46. You can also cut the knob off an old E46 M3 shift knob and reuse the boot.

How long do you think leather lasts being used for shifting before showing signs of wear?

It's not just the e46 though, anecdotally I checked the price on the brake kit (just pads, rotors, ss lines) I bought for my NB miata in 2020 and it's more than doubled in price since
