    Alternate Transmission Options?

Was just wondering if there are any other options for transmission replacements? something from a newer BMW perhaps?

I am wondering as the Transmission in my haggard old M3 is ls then perfect with periodic "false" shifts (where it the shifter will pop into the detent but not engage the gear) so was planning for a potential future replacement. I was looking at tracking down a low(er) km/Mile SMG transmission and converting it to MT as a patch of least resistance but was also wondering if there are other options as the 420G is known to not be a stellar box.

I have heard that the ZF S6-53 can be made to work but could not find anything on the steps involved. These seem to be common, well regarded boxes.

I would be looking for a 6 speed for road use. I know 5 speed swaps are possible and common for track car but not what im looking for.

    Thanks.
