    ? for those who've tried an e60 shift lever

    I'm planning to refresh the original shifter and bushings that have 158k on them. I ordered a weighted broomstick knob, garagistic shifter bushings, a new shift rod joint and the yellow washers.

    With 158k miles, I'm pretty sure the factory shift lever is worn and should be replaced.

    I had a Rogue Engineering Octane ss kit on my previous M3, and while it did shorten the throws, I disliked the notchiness, especially when shifting into 2nd. I'm not interested in getting another SSK, but if I were, it sounds like the Autosolutions autocross is the way to go. I just don't want to spend >$500 for something I might not like the feel of anyway.

    So there are two E60 shift levers:
    25117527261 - the standard one
    25117546373 - the short version most use as a SS lever

    For those that have had either of these, do either of them introduce notchiness? And how does it feel shifting into 2nd? Is there noticeable increase in effort needed to shift?

    I'm curious about the notchiness with the 373 version.

    Has anyone owned or tried both that can share more feedback with regard to notchiness, shifting into 2nd, shift effort?

    For anyone that has had either, did you eventually switch away from either one? If so why?

      I have the short version 373 in mine with OE bushings and one Turner shifter arm carrier bushing - I freaking love it and always have since I had it done. Much shorter, and OE notchy if that makes sense? I think it's something you'd have to try out in person to really tell the difference - if you're in California I'm happy to have you try mine

        thanks for your feedback and offer to try your shifter! I'm in Las Vegas, but if I do come out to SoCal, I may take you up on your offer if I haven't switched my shift lever out by then. This weekend, I'm planning on replacing all my worn out shifter bushings and will re-use the stock lever, just to see how much of an improvement the buhsings make. If I dislike it, I'll order the 373 lever and go from there.

          Sounds good! I think anything is better than old shifter bushings so I'm sure you'll be good either way

            What weighted broomstick are you referring to? My OE shit knob is in need of replacement but they're crazy expensive.

                OE M3 boot is nappa. Find a used one being sold for cheap because shifter itself is worn, cut off the shifter and you have yourself a nappa boot.

                  I have the -884 as well, I like it compared to the ZHP-like shorter shift knob I had previously.

                          I'm sure you already know but: stock is the illuminated broomstick, whereas 884 is the non-illuminated weighted broomstick, and then you have the zhp knob. OP mentioned having the 884 on order, which is not stock- hence my confusion.

                            This thread isn't about knobs. He's talking about the metal lever. I.e., changing the throw. I see now that a few of you, recently, posted about knobs, but I didn't quote you guys or anything. I'm just talking about the lever.

                            Best setup in my opinion is all stock except for a delrin or poly nose carrier bushing, and the weighted 884 knob with sequestered factory boot (nappa) or zhp alcantara.

                            Oh, and if you haven't try the latest DCT fluids in your manual gearbox. They're backwards compatible (GL4), proper light weight, and they feel great!

                              I have 25117527261 - the standard one​.
                              I find the lever positioning and throw lengths to be perfect. Only complaint is the typical bmw rubbery feel which I addressed by drilling a hole and adding a bolt.
