GT4 Composites new product: CF trunk floor

We are going to make new parts trying to reduce the overall weight of the E46 M3, a little bit here and there.

So here is the first prototype of the trunk floor JC made this week. He made 2 versions: one of 2-layers of CF and another one 2-layers + core in between.

Weight reduction: between 1kg / 1.5kg or 2.2lbs / 3.3lbs

This is very cool in a hilarious reflection of the level this community has got to kinda way. I really enjoy that stuff like this has come to be but I feel that price point will end up being a sticking point. I had previously done some initial investigations in this area but was thinking of just buying and cutting to size aluminium honeycomb sheets. I found I couldn't justify the price point for the weight loss. Admittedly it was less weight loss than this is... But equally it was likely to be much cheaper than this will be 😂

Nice - I thought about making one of these for myself (partly weight savings, but mostly because I need to modify mine anyway around the RACP brace I'm installing) but I wasn't too sure whether it would end up being a bit of a vibration resonator. Keen to hear if there's any difference in noise/vibration with this installed.

Finally had time today to test fit the trunk floor into my Estoril M3. This one is the version with the core inside. With carpet on top, it saves weight and has same rigidity as OEM to load stuff on top
