My M3 has the BW street/track exhaust, stock airbox, and Megan headers.
I’ve already taken care of the necessary software modifications to prevent a CEL, either by manually editing the .bin file or using the ECUWorkz tool. Unlike my dad’s car with the full BW Race exhaust and a conforti, I haven’t noticed any major torque drop-offs or dead spots—my setup runs strong, has good drivability, and feels solid overall.
I’m considering a tune mainly because I know the stock tune isn’t fully optimized for my setup, but from what I understand, it should be safe. If I do move forward, I’d likely choose HTE, as they seem like the best current option. I originally looked at Epic, but the potential for the tune being locked and their extra charges for things like an EWS delete—even if I’ve already done it myself—turned me off. While I know Epic has a great track record for dedicated track car tunes, I don’t want to be nickel-and-dimed and potentially locked out.
Since this is a car I drive daily and take on long trips (like Houston to Road Atlanta), reliability is my priority over chasing the most aggressive tune for a dyno number. That said, I’d still like to take advantage of any safe power gains if they’re available, and I wouldn’t mind a slight improvement in highway fuel efficiency.
For those who have gone with HTE, have you noticed any downsides? Would this be a good route given my goals? I see most of his tunes are paired with the Carbon Airbox, and I know they yield great results. I assume the same applies to his MAF-based tunes as well?
