    Import vehicle tariffs include parts

I read that the recent tariffs will also include auto parts made outside the U.S, its hard to say how much of that will be passed to the consumer.

Can anyone with some knowledge in this area speculate on what might happen here.

Not wanting this to devolve into a political discussion just genuinely curious.

Yes it will include parts. I’m expecting it all to be passed onto the customer.

Don’t shoot the messenger. I didn’t come up with this dumb shit.

EDIT… I will say though, if you need the part and it’s in inventory somewhere, buy it now if you can because the next inventory refresh will likely be more expensive.

The parts tariffs will be 100% passed along to the consumer or shop. Your shop will pass it to you. Get ready for it.

New cars: BMW says it will absorb the new tariffs until May 1. Porsche says 100% will be passed to the buyer without delay.

This is making me want to get all the parts for my manual swap now even though I was planning on it anytime soon.

guys...this information is readily available on whitehouse.gov website. it does not include "ALL" auto parts. you can find this information on the 2nd paragraph in the link below.
              • The 25% tariff will be applied to imported passenger vehicles (sedans, SUVs, crossovers, minivans, cargo vans) and light trucks, as well as key automobile parts (engines, transmissions, powertrain parts, and electrical components), with processes to expand tariffs on additional parts if necessary.

Porsche doesn't need those Tariffs to rape their customers, they've been doing it for years!

And those 25% Tariffs are applied on new parts I guess?

I think it will be based on how the parts are categorized from the seller just like how duties are checked by customs which should be applicable to both new and used parts. Will probably see it affect new parts more than used parts as a guess.

Sounds like there will be workarounds for most of us, especially if you're buying from a smaller outfit or even better, an individual.

I don't think this will affect us as much as originally suspected. Most of us, myself included, probably thought it would apply to all parts purchased outside the US but it doesn't seem like the case.

Personally, I'm kind of enjoying watching people who couldn't afford to import a GT-R to begin with get all mad because now, they REALLY can't afford to import a GT-R. But aside from that, nothing good is going to come from this.

Parts wise, should be okay at first, until if/when the "with processes to expand tariffs on additional parts if necessary" part happens.

Used car market will for sure be affected for obvious reasons.

This whole thing is going to do bad things for any average consumer who doesn't have fuck you money.

It's also going to do bad things for the entire advertising industry in the US.

Porsche announced a few days ago that they are raising prices 7% irrespective of tariffs.

I thought it was all new parts as well, but didn’t check the website. All “key” parts is an interesting differentiator. We shall see. For most of us the work around is where driving 20+ year old cars. That said, these past 6 months I’ve ordered quite a few “non key” parts and now I’m glad I did. Most of my parts though come from people like us, on forums or ebay or car-part.com, so those would never be subject anyway.

But that fresh Italian exhaust or carbon fiber intake or that suspension overhaul? Yeah get that now or wait for someone to be explaining to you how it’s “key” and therefore subject to tariffs.

I read the "key" component portion to mean modules like completed engines, transmissions, battery packs for HVs,...things that you see when you look on the window sticker for Country of Origin information. I doubt they are going to tariff every single spare part coming into the country. Remember, many vehicles "assembled" in the US have engines, trans, etc. made elsewhere (chicken tax anyone?). I would be more skeptical of resellers capitalizing on tariff fear by increasing prices and pocketing the profit when no tariffs will be imposed on those items.

EDIT: One thought, even if 25% applies, is the price of parts keeping any of us out of these cars? Prices were already getting stupid and what, we have a listing for CSL wheels at $8000? I don't want to pay more, but there are other pricing factors in play here that we shouldn't lose sight of.

Inflation in general has slowed down my upgrade progress a bit, but this may just stop it completely.
