Car is a 03.5 M3 if that makes any difference. I was cruising at 40mph then the car start to sputter and eventually die and I had to pull over. Got the car towed home and first checked fuse 54 for fuel pump, Fuse is good. Then I ran the diagnostic and got error 1 which shows fuel pump relay. So I swapped green relay #3 with #6 which was located behind the glove box. The two relays had the exact same part number and #6 I believe it was for the horn so I tried that. Still no crank. Can it be the crankshaft position sensor?

Sounds like a dead fuel pump. Can you hear it prime with the key in position 2?2002 Topasblau M3 - Coupe - 6MT - Karbonius CSL Airbox - MSS54HP Conversion - SSV1 - HJS - Mullet Tune - MK60 Swap - ZCP Rack - Nogaros - AutoSolutions - 996 Brembos - Slon - CMP - VinceBar - Koni - Eibach - BlueBus - Journal

Green's not the fuel pump on the M3, black is. Looks like this: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...hoCMcQQAvD_BwE
Not sure you can swap it interchangeably with any of the other relays -- I think not.

Thanks for the tip. I will check it out again. Is the fuel pump relay still behind the glove box like the e46 non M?Originally posted by ATB88 View PostGreen's not the fuel pump on the M3, black is. Looks like this: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...hoCMcQQAvD_BwE

edit: I just checked again and there are no black relays behind the glove box area. Where else can it be?Last edited by NaM3; 06-02-2020, 12:08 AM.

On my convertible it was near the back seat on the passenger side wall under the door panel. Very close to the PDC box and not far from the battery.Originally posted by NaM3 View Post

What kind of fuel pump did you install? Did you replace the fuel filter at the same time? How did you verify you’re not getting power to the fuel pump?Originally posted by NaM3 View PostForgot to mention that I just replaced the fuel pump as well. I am not getting any power to the fuel pump.

I have a convertible, but I believe it's in the trunk behind the liner on the passenger side on the coupe.Originally posted by NaM3 View Post

OEM fuel pump bought from FCP. I did not replace the filter at the same time but I have replaced the fuel filter 3 years ago when I bought this car.Originally posted by Obioban View Post

I am verifying no power by using a power test pen and a multimeter.

No I have not, is that a common problem? That should just be the wires from the fuel pump to the trunk where the relay is, right?Originally posted by Krnxoojin View PostSimple solution but have you checked the harnesses and wiring leading up to the fuel pump? Could be an easy check
Only reason I am so focus on the Fuel pump relay is my scanner gave me the error code of 1 which is for fuel pump relay.
