    KWV3, Stock, Ohlins?

    Hey Fellas,

So just need some quick opinions. Ive recently purchase another M3 with brand new OEM suspension (under 700 miles on them). There is a guy that is parting out his car who has KWV3 with about $13k miles on them, who said he'd trade my OEM plus $1200. Ive never felt KWs so I have no baseline.

I can also wait for a used set of Ohlins to pop up (usually around $1600) or get them new for about $2500. Ive never felt Ohlins do i have no baseline.

Brand new OEM suspension feel surprisingly good... just high.

    Any advise?

Ohlins all the way. I would just pony up and get new at this point (wait for a sale)

Do they have sales on every holiday type of deal?

I think the KW V3 is a great kit for the price. Not sure about his price though - $1200 seems steep considering he'd be getting new stock suspension in return.

        No experience with the Ohlins.

Would never purchase a used KW V3 suspension

Here's my input with my experience of buying suspensions over the past 15 years. Unless you know they are almost new and look new (no rust, oxidation, leaks, etc.) then consider used. Otherwise, just purchase whatever coilovers you decide on brand new. I currently have Ohlins (3dm track kit) and they are awesome. I've had pss10's (on 2 different e46's), kw clubsports, h&r drop springs, and stock suspension.

Having them rebuilt is a complete pain in the ass, IMO. You're better off going with the Ohlins

This. My car came with KW V3's, and the previous owner had it so low that 3 of the 4 shocks were blown. KW will NOT sell seals and parts to anybody, so if you want to rebuild them, you need to have KW do the work. It cost me $875 + shipping to rebuild them. I wanted a different spring rate as well, but they will NOT revalve them, period, you need to step up to clubsports, so you're just stuck with the valving that comes with them. And you can't run them very low because you'll blow the seals.

Don't get me wrong, they're not bad suspension, but for how much they cost and the complete pain to maintain them - plus you can't modify or revalve them - there are way better options. Personally, if I were looking for something to just bolt-on and go, I'd go Bilstein PSS10s - they're a great bargain at like $1600. Add a set of TMS camber plates, and you have a really good setup.

Öhlins, because it's good out of the box and has the potential for revalve.

Based on my experience with the KWV3s that came with my e60 M5...

                            Not KWs.

What do you mean? Are you saying you like the V3s?
