    Best CSL Airbox Setup?

Thinking about installing a CSL intake this winter while the car is stored away. I've done research but haven't seen anything too recent, so I was just wondering what the best current set up for these? I'm still learning the platform so still trying to understand the different ways to install the intake.

I have heard that Kassel Performance has its own tune and I live very close to them so I was wondering if they were still a good place to have all the work done at once; installation, tuning, etc.

    Karbonius only. No Kassel.

I was going to go with the Karbonius airbox but why not Kassel? Even for the installation and tune?

Kassel tune is more or less base CSL tune (which one can get for free), go HTE or Mullet tune, search on here to find more info on these tunes.
My Kassel CSL tune was so CSL it was setup for CSL cams, I had to fix that one.

I think most will agree that Karbonius offers the best fit and finish but it comes with a steep price tag. I generally shy away from Turner/ECS products but I took a chance on the TMS v2 airbox after seeing dyno sheets, which brings me to my main point. The 'best' airbox won't mean jack if you pair it with meh tuning. I paid $1600 for a new TMS airbox (before shipping and excl. install hardware) and saw a nearly 40whp gain after getting a custom tune by Randy at Epic. Would I have seen higher whp figures with Karbonius? Perhaps but I wasn't going to spend an extra $700 to find out. And frankly, I just don't see a Z4 M putting down over 340whp on stock cams and injectors. Yes, I know M3's have seen higher figures but the MSS70 is a different animal. My only complaint with the TMS airbox was the interior walls were a bit rough. So I took the extra steps of sanding the inside and laying down a coat of epoxy. But that only cost me $30 and 1 hour of my time, easily worth the peace of mind.

TLDR: Karb offers the best quality; TMS offers best value. No matter what, don't skimp out on tuning.

^ what they all said. Also would like to throw in that the Karb Race version makes it a little easier because you don’t have to get the snorkel (integrated) or worry about any tubing

After seeing that youtubers Haimus fall apart into pieces and hearing of turners(v1) having related quality issues it wasn't worth it to me to try and save the $ with non-karbonius.

I really like my Evolve, but acknowledge it is not as loud as Karb. Fit/finish is about on par as well. I consider it a close second.

HTE tune for sure. Great guy, great service, great results.

Here’s how the TMS sounds on my Z4 M, I suspect mine may be a tad quieter due to the resin I applied (i.e. acts as sound insulation) but it works well for me given the other drivetrain noises I have coming through (e.g. solid mounts, flywheel, etc.)

                    Street test - clip

Hot lap on track (windows down) - clip

I recently installed my Karbonious Intake with their Snorkel as well. I’ve got Bry5on ‘s mullet tune . I connected with him my DM’ing him on here. He’s given me plenty of great feedback and has revised tunes for specific setups. I was deciding between HTE and Bryson, and ended up going the route which I thought would be most reliable. I’ve put over 1500 miles on the car since converting it without a single issue. I had to buy an HP DME which I shipped to have him convert and upload his tune. The process was very easy.

In the 2-3K RPM range, are you having a lag in throttle response when you rev match? I noticed this in the street test video and on a Z4M with airbox I recently drove.

I don't know if this changes anything but I would be doing a dyno tune at Kassel, not a OTS tune. Do you guys still think a HTE/Mullet tune through email is better than a dyno tune through Kassel?

If you did pick up something in my video, I am highly impressed because that clip was when I was running the OTS tune. Track video was taken 2 weeks later after I got the custom dyno tune. But I honestly never noticed any lag issues before or after. Throttle input always felt responsive and smooth. In the video I don’t recall downshifting to rev match… I may have been holding the revs when deciding to slow down or speed up during the merge?

Why is dyno tune only an option with Kassel? Why can’t you go custom with the others? I asked for OTS tune that way I could drive the car immediately after installing the airbox, knowing well that I would follow up with a dyno tune.
