As others have said, 3.91 over 3.85 for sure.

My car is street only with 3.91s. I don’t even notice a difference in freeway rpm vs stock and mpg is a silly thing to worry about on a performance vehicle, imo.

I disagree. I've pulled the racing diffs clutches out of my ZF LSD twice to inspect during gearing changes. They looked fine. Have had good results with the clutches in the V1 unit. The V2 unit is a different story. Not sure if it is a clutch disc issue or something else...0 for 3 with the V2.

I could see the clutches in the V1 and V2 units wear out quicker because of a stronger spring and the m-clunk fix. But if you put in OE parts they'd wear just as quick...if OE parts were available.

Charging $1,400 for a ring and pinion set is criminal.

Just follow up, just received all my parts from Pedro from Peakyparts, for 3.91 ratio swap. Great experience ordering from him. Diff rebuild with Wavetrac LSD is next.

What's the best route for having an existing 4.1 m variable rebuilt with a wavetrac?
I’ve got a spare v1 that is very due for a rebuild

I may be wrong, but i believe this is drop in swap. Not sure if the V1 or V2 matters?

correct, just need pull the carrier housings off, remove the LSD unit and swap the ring gear. Shouldn't need to make an adjustment but I'd check the backlash pre-and post-install. If you do need make an adjustment, it is in the carrier shims which is an easy change.

Why isn't this a more popular option here? $1500 and just swapping r&p over seems like a deal? IIRC something about output flanges needing to be equal length, Obioban possibly?

no need to swap to equal output flanges, the Wavetrac LSD for e46M3 is made for factory unequal ones. I think its a different story with other LSD units like ZF LSD from other 210mm BMW LSD. Just what i gathered from some research when sourcing these parts, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I can attest to this, I rebuilt my diff with racing diffs clutch pack and within 500 miles I have an open diff instead... Need to open it back up and go back to stock!

While I understand I’m leaving some performance on the table, the wavetrac really is a great OE+ option. No downsides va stock, works with one tire on ice, no clutches to wear out, silent, easy.
