Valve Adjustment Below Spec

You can buy individual BMW shims of any size you want for $2 a piece from any online parts retailer, like FCP euro. I buy a bunch of several sizes before I adjust, use the ones I need once I'm in there, send the rest back for refund unopened. This process is made a lot easier if the last time you did an adjustment you took each shim in your car out and measured it, and put it in a spreadsheet. Then the next time you need to do an adjustment, you just need to order a size above and a size below each shim that's currently in there, and you're guaranteed to be covered without having to order a bunch of every size. You only have to do the tedious process of measuring each shim once, and it makes all future adjustments easierOriginally posted by BL92 View PostPicked up a kit locally , they are all there, just jumbled up
Does anyone know if i should re-buy this kit to make 2 kits, or is there another kit with different sizes?
With the entire exhaust over spec, i am guessing i need a lot of shims ?

Part numbers for all the shim sizes here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...06#11347832287

Thanks again
So i just measured all mine! Lowest was 2.21 and highest was 2.29. Any opinions on wear judging by the sizes? I managed to do some swapping around, ie using a 2.28 in place of the 2.21 etc. I may need 1 more 2.32 unless i can do some more switching aroundLast edited by BL92; 02-15-2025, 03:45 PM.

It's kinda hard to swap around since the 0.04mm step in the shims is pretty close to the 2 thou range (about 1.5 thou). So you kind of need one particular size or not. Even with recycling old ones into different locations becomes a bit of a pain I found as they'd all be pretty close to the nominal size.Originally posted by BL92 View PostThanks again

2 Wiseco sets was enough for me but there are heaps of sizes way off that I'll never use. If you can be them individually reasonably priced do that although you'll need an idea of where you are in the range first. 2.2mm to 2.3mm was about where mine all are from memory.
