What's with the hate on Nappa Grey?

The black carpet helps a ton. I have a different period car in Brilliant Silver over Grey, and black accents there (mats, center console) have helped a ton.Originally posted by YYZ-M3 View Post
For that car, similar to this one, we like them for their classic, understated lines. That's even more classic in Silver paint (IMO). To add a slab of very little but Grey color to that all over the interior just creates a "blah" that doesn't go over well. On the other hand, with a different color exterior paint (and carpet or mats) I think Grey is just fine.

If the grey was two tone, like imola/cin, it wouldn't get the hate. It's the endless monotonous expanse of grey that makes it so awful.

That looks pretty good, just needs a black dashboard. You can rattle can the dash black. I'll have to find what I used but it is a perfect OEM match. Still need to remove the dashboard which isn't too bad.Originally posted by YYZ-M3 View Post

I think piano black trim would be a great way to add more contrast.

Awesome WestBankM4 - I saw a Cabrio go through cars and bids a couple years ago that was also modified to reduce the amount of grey.
I haven’t decided yet if I will swap out the seat trim and back panel to black or keep it grey. I like both but probably would prefer black if I could find those parts without having to buy complete seats.

Tends to be the go to... that's how my center on the 500E got to be black... TexaZ3 knows what to use.

As many mentioned, it's the fact that everything is grey. If they made the dashboard/console/carpet black and the rest with grey accents, it would have been 100000% better. Think, Imola Red or Cinnamon interior but replace the leather portions with the the gray, this would have made grey much more acceptable. The e9x m3 nailed it with the non extended grey leather interior. I would actually consider a grey interior on e9x m3 vs and e46 m3.

I think it just doesn't wear nice. Does it look good? Does it look bad? Think that moreso depends on condition for me.
However I feel the entire point of that interior color is to make no statement at all and to be pretty dull. Despite that, there is nothing to really break it up. So while it is supposed to make no statement. It is in your face, because it is just a wall of Grey.
I don't think there is anything wrong with that. It's just a color, some people are very immune to being emotional about a color.
To a lot of people it is a very important and personal "spec" to have right on their cars especially as you dive into more niche and enthusiastic communities of specific cars. It's why manufacturers put in so much effort to provide colors, functionally it doesn't do jack shit. If you had a Nappa Grey, or an Imola Red interior and are colorblind the consumer experience is the exact same. However, sex sells, visual appeal and preference is pretty important to most people.
I think fabric choice, like cloth or leather should be more important as that is what you feel and contact with every time you touch the car. (I wish I had cloth) For my E28, it is bronzit (most people distain that color) and I swapped in a one year only euro brown interior. It made the car my own, and I get excited still every time I look at it and I prefer touching that material itself over the USA counterparts. I don't expect anyone else to get too excited for beige and brown though.
If you are happy with your interior, enjoy it. You can't expect everyone to go crazy for your "spec" as well. What everyone likes is usually pretty obvious and cookie cutter, not that there is anything wrong with that either generally the community will just swing towards certain colors and specs. Especially through an online medium, text only communication definitely changes how people interact don't take it personally.
