Pro Tip: A keyhole delete is very easily defeated with a standard flat screwdriver unless you also remove the lock cylinder. In fact - its a flat screwdriver that they use in this attack - so nothing new needed by the thief. Then you can fill the lock cylinder with a few epoxied dimes to prevent that mode of defeat.

What's a good source these days for a keyhole delete cover thing-a-ma-bob? Ideally a place that will send 'em painted. Thanks.

Lowest effort way is to buy a passenger side cover in the same color from a RHD part out (or LHD if your car is RHD). Ebay is your friend.

They could just break the glass for entry instead.
My philosophy is not to lock the car and don’t leave valuables.

What happens if the battery dies with the keyhole delete? How are you getting into the car?

Not easy but not impossible: get down on floor under the starter to connect the big red cable terminal to 12v charger

I remember my E83 X3; battery died. No key hole in the hatch! So I had to climb in through the interior... I think in these days of kidney grill shortages, one must be mindful of where to park an E46 to avoid such problems; I worry about my Tacoma outside sometimes lol!
