Does that mean the S62 would qualify for OEM+ ?

In my POV, yes, but both the S62 and S65 have their pros and cons.

IF BMW made the SMG work with the S62 they really need to dump that info out there now that we see that we'll never get cars like this again......

There is no need to keep this shit "secret" any more just like the V10 with DCT that they made work........

Not in my book, the S62 is a truck motor. Loads of low end power, but not high reving. And high reving is what the E46 M3 is about...
For an M5 on the other hand it's the perfect motor.

So you'd prefer an s65? Here's your truck motor at the track:

That's a full on race engine with 570 bhp. Ya think thats even remotely close to the stock S62 found in an E39 M5? Yeah, you can build an S62 into a race Motor, but then we're lightyears away from the OEM+ discussion that was going on above.

It is said it’s easier to swap in an S85 into an E9X M3 because both S85 and S65 come from the same bmw era and share many of the same electrics.

Both JP Performance and RatDog on YouTube have successfully carried out S65 swaps with manual and DCT in their E46 M3’s. They also stated all the electrics, looms, sensors from wheel hubs to the engine had to be swapped out from E9X M3 donor cars for it to work properly.

Getting an S62 into an E46 is said to be far easier, because it’s from the same era as the S54. PTG BMW chucked a race tuned S62 engine in their E46 M3 GTR, which sounds so heavenly, while in their other GTR’s had the P60 engines. l see Partee Racing can build a race tuned S62 engine with 500 ponies to squeeze into an E46, but it requires very deep pockets. So, I need to my lottery numbers to come up so I can have one of their engines lol.

kaiv told me it's not really a viable swap and that's why he got rid of his.

After doing a lot more research, it does indeed sound like the S62 is far far easier to get into and running in an E46 M3
