Correct, as long as the sizing is appropriate. Such as a BW Y-pipe, this was a pos small Y-pipe going into a 3" straight pipe out the back, no muffler. For the math, a single 3" has the surface area of 7.07, stock dual 2.25" is 7.95. A bottle neck, that I didn't want to address at the time.
It is actually where the Y is located with respect to the primary to collector merge that mostly governs the low rpm torque sub 4000rpm
