    Shark Fin Antenna Delete

I had asked this question in the last forum but never got around to doing it; someone posted some pictures also which were quite helpful.

Someone suggested to use a heat gun prior to removal; I was also going to use dental floss... should I?

My other concern was, how does the cable come out from the under the window seal?

And if I recall, it was the purple connector in the trunk/boot... how to even access that?

Use a heat gun/blow dryer. Floss would work to get under it. Pull slow and don't force it to much to one side. There is a wire that makes its way to the trunk just trace it back and disconnect. Its under the rear window liner if i remember correctly. GL

So you just pull the wire from out under the liner... it won't affect the function of the liner?

Nope. Mine had a little wrinkle where it went under up top by the shark fin, but it laid down after a couple hot days in the sun.

Be extremely careful removing the antenna as the roof dents very easily. I wouldn't use any tools other than floss or a flexible strip of some sort. If you do pull on the antenna, only pull towards the rear of the car. Pulling sideways will dent the roof.

Mine was removed by the shop when the car was being refinished. They didn't put it back on and I want to re-install it. Where does the wire enter the car trunk?

It’s for BMW assist and the service is deactivated for the E46. The wire (and fin) is pointless.

You mean its not for the GPS sat nav?

Nope, that antenna is elsewhere (one of the pillars)? It plugs separately directly into the Nav computer.

Here's where it enters the trunk:

                        Plug for hole:

Not entirely sure how to read this....

Basically, does the window liner have to be removed in any way, both from the top and left hand side, to get at the wire?

                            The wire just pulls out.

So the wires exits the the shark fin right at the top of the rear window or through a hole in the roof? I assume you guys aren't removing these just to uncover a hole in roof. I would be interested in removing this if its easy and no functionally is lost, which it doesn't sound like is the case.

So where my finger is is where the wire enters, or is it in the roof itself?
