Is the Manzo a true 2.5” or a 2.36” with an OD of 2.5”?

Ya I made that mistake early on. When we talk about piping diameter, we're talking OD. So stock pipes are like 2.16-2.36 from headers to sect 2/3. most aftermarket pipes are 2.36", then there's the 2.5".

I'm not mentioning the single 3"-3.5" stuff either.

      Pipe wall is 1/16". Double that (1/8") and that's why pipes are 2.5" OD/ 2.36" ID or 2.36"OD & 2.25" ID.

Catted V1 S pipes and non catted pipes are exact same; one has cats welded in, one doesn't. That's the only difference - the decat even comes with bungs, literally the same pipes. Just because it mates to a 60mm sect 2 doesn't mean it ends as 60mm. The triangle flanges allow a small range of diameters to mate together.

If you didn't know, the header to sect 1 flanges also allow a range of diameters to mate. You can install the 2.5" manzo sect 1 to 2.16" stock headers. Going from 2.5 to 2.37" is nothing.

Even if the SS v1 pipes did taper down to 60mm (2.37") for a few inches, you wouldn't see that on a dyno.
Per ECS, it states "Supersprint Stepped Section 1 Straight Pipe - 63.5mm to 60mm". Does this mean it tapers down or does it mean it can bolt up to a 60mm section 2 but its really 63.5mm all the way through.

Pretty sure that actually necks down to 60mm whereas part 044012 is the full 63.5.

At least the catted version does not neck down.

This is correct, 044912 tapers down to 60mm. ECS considers 044012 as a decat pipe which they are not allowed to sell.

However, Turner can sell this part which does not taper: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3...straight-pipe/

Somewhere, something got lost. The ss v1 sect 1 (catted or not) does not step down AT ALL. It will mate to 60mm stock sec 2 or other sect 2s.

The new ss sect 2 2.5 DOES neck down to 60mm to mate with all sect 3s.

I don't care what ECS says.

You aren't wrong, but you aren't entirely correct in this case either.

The link that was posted is for a section 1 that is a slip fit for V1 Stepped and DOES neck down to 60mm. That part number is 044912 and the full 63.5mm is 044012.

That part won't show up on the SS website under our car but you can find it listed under the Z4M here.

I have them laying around in the garage. I'll double check but I did notice it tapers right after where it connects to the headers. I gotta find some calipers tho dammit

Both part numbers are the same pipes. You guys are believing a description over common sense look at the pics.

Here's 044912 again, show me where you think it tapers down:

Of course it does, that's 2.625" going down to 2.5" to accommodate for your 2.5" v1 headers after the slip fit/clamp.

Yep, what he said. That is not a step down, it’s the slip fit connection point.

Some pictures can be stock photos. I don't understand why 2 identical section 1s have different part numbers unless one tapers and the other doesn't. Don't want to buy the ECS 63.5-60mm section 1 just to find out that it tapers and ECS telling me to shove it since that is exactly what was listed.

Part numbers are 044012 and 044912.
