    Bimmerpost swooping in

Someone mentioned that the sharks have gathered. Well Bimmerpost opened it's own dedicated E46 M3 portion. There is literally only one DIY and the thread about M3forum is locked so you'd have to create a new post about this site, which would probably get taken down. I'll try it. That website is LOADED with ads.

This adds to my annoyance that M3F went down but we are doing what we can. Let's send some emails to sponsors letting them know we are up and running.

I think the thing about this forum is no sponsors, right? Still wouldn’t hurt messaging them to let them know where people are gathering? Maybe admins can provide input.

I meant company sponsors. People that sponsor the companies. We are the forum sponsors along with every other member. I'm going to post on Bimmerpost and it'll probably get deleted. It's the effort that counts.

Representatives is the right word for them I guess

In that locked thread it looks like they deleted posts from Ian saying that the new forum is up. That's pretty low.

Edit: Now that thread is straight up gone.

They delete any mentions of competing forums, and then their names are censored from any URLs. If you've ever seen a link look like "http://www.****************.com/" on their forums, that's what happened. Same case with former vendors. Bimmerpost is the devil.

That's what happens when you have vendors "sponsors" and ads needed to pay your hosting costs. That will never happen here, as long as I have a say.

Bimmerpost does have a clean UI and I don't see those "loaded with ad" that some of you guys are mentioning?

It’s not the banner ads that are the issue— it’s the censoring/deleting content to protect the sponsors, undermining actual meaningful discussion that’s the issue.

Always questions with no answers. If they'd just look here, they'd get smarter.

I think I figured it out. Most of the cars represented there are newer models. Models that are either on extended warranty or are still on the factory warranty. There simply is no need and no incentive to DIY (other than basic mods). I remember the very early days of M3Forum when the E46 was still new, there were not a lot of DIY'ers there. A bunch of rich kids who's dad's had bought them an M3. Very different from the current group. It's very simple really the older cars get the greater need to and the fear there is to DIY. Hence greater knowledge-base.

I certainly agree that's part of it. But, I also don't think it's necessarily going to get there. I sold our e9X primarily because I couldn't stand working not it, and I generally like DIYing things. Every single part of the car felt like it wasn't designed to be worked on/serviced... and the F8X is even worse.

By contrast, the e46 comes apart like Legos

True that. My E46 is actually fun to work on. Sadly, I believe it is the last generation of BMW's to be truly wrenchable. I also have an E90, and I just bought an F15 both are computer dependent, but the F15 is so sensitive and computer dependent that you can lose adaptation just unhooking the battery! Don't even think about working on these cars unless you have a copy of ISTA+ on hand. Watching these guys trying to debug their vehicles (F15, Bimmerpost) without software is hilarious. They get all kinds of crazy errors and have no idea of what is going on under the sheets.

Bimmerpost isn't that bad. It picks up with the E90/E60 and then bimmerforums ends at the E36/E39. Bimmerpost has a really good E9X M3 forum except when rod bearings come up for discussion. E46Fanatics and M3 Forum fit in between.

I don't think the Bimmerpost E46 forum will ever gain any traction. Bimmerpost is becoming more of a news/blog site than a place for serious discussion.
