Makes even more sense if you have more than one S54 in your garage!

ACL because they're made in Australia. Local ftw

None other than the all-fixing WD-40. Works in the engine too...... for about 2 minutes.

                  WPC isn’t a coating.

Fair point. Most people aren’t pulling it off until every 80-100k. Which is the interval I’d do lol

I’m going with the VAC, for some reason the coating gives me peace of mind, I actually got them delivered yesterday and will have them installed this week.

If the VAC bearings are truly a coating wouldn't that create tighter tolerances against the crank? Might have the opposite effect.

Many times WPC is referred to as a coating when its effectively a very fine/precise shot peen treatment. So the bearing clearances are unaffected.

Personally I think if the clearances are good then any reputable choice is ok, if you have an issue with the oil film then it won’t matter what bearings are in there it’ll be toast

They look nitrided. Honestly, the solution isn't making the bearing harder. Nitrided metal is HARD. It also becomes more brittle. Regular bearings are soft so I'm on the fence about VAC's "coated bearings until I find what they do to them. I could be completely wrong so i would like to figure it out first. WPC is a good idea but not really much of a solution. None of these "solutions" should make anyone increase their bearing intervals. Don't go over 100k on bearings if you like your engine.

Ok no nitride, but I did find this.

That is who does their bearing apparently. The link describes the process. It causes tighter clearance and resists oil. Two of these things are still bad.

Whatever bearing you go with, be sure to adhere to a frequent oil change interval and try not to ring out the RPMs until the oil is warm.

Personally i've run Genuine BMW and WPC treated OEM bearings. Observed no difference between the two.
