Removed water pump yesterday to prep for install today, was waiting for o-rings and new bolts to show up. When I removed the water pump, a rusty discovery inside the heater core coolant pipe and water pump mating surface showed up, plus some stripped threads on the left most bolt (one holding the hard line in place). I didn't realize morons still add regular water into the cooling system, plus don't flush coolant regularly. I ended up scraping the rust inside the pipe with a tooth brush, then flushed it out with a vacuum, and removed rusty coating with some Bon Ami paste on my finger plus a green scouring pad.
I plan on running Thermocure thru the system later on to flush any remaining rust flakes out. For the stripped threads, I got a longer bolt, there is enough room in there for it. This deferred maintenance is almost over.

Finally purchased it, and cleaned it since it has been sitting in storage for ~2 years. A 2003.5 slicktop.

Recently did something I should have done YEARS ago. Swapped out the lower headlight trim for trim without the headlight washer cutouts. Found a used set on eBay in silver grey in what appeared to be great shape, for a reasonable $60, I took the chance and was pleasantly surprised that they were in just as good shape as advertised:

Snapped one of the 3 thermostat housing bolts, coolant leak, waiting for a new water pump. Needed a replacement anyway, wasn't expecting it this way 😂
