Definitely good to know. That's why they're so cheap I guess. If a piston cracks, that could literally kill you.
When I read the title I was thinking how our car already has six pistons and HAD to see how to convert our engines to an OEM 6 piston design. You meant brakes.

You can replace the pistons with StopTech aluminum pistons that are typically used in the ST-60 6-piston StopTech calipers, but by the time you go to all the effort and money, you might as well just get something else to start with that is better - they're not the best match for the e46m3. A bunch of us run Porsche calipers, Aston Martin DB9 (which is what I run), or StopTech/Brembo kits.Originally posted by Obioban View Post
Yep, they’re garbage— pistons crack when they get hot.
This page from 1addicts has the info to fix the broken piston issues

What is the ideal brake bias and what do these set ups offer? I can imagine track and street optimal bias should be the same because you go around a lot of corners and must stop quickly sometimes. The pads be the only thing to be changed, I would think.
My Braking Systems class was taught by an idiot so I didn't really learn anything new. Hopefully Mercedes has a good class on it. I probably won't take a performance class until I start getting into AMG certification classes sadly. That's a few years away. It's not BMW but I will absolutely be sharing everything I learn. This is my Unbuild Journal and why we need an oil thread

There are brackets available for Porsche 911 and Aston Martin DB9 calipers which both use CSL rotors. DB9 calipers are the same as Audi TTRS 8J calipers.Originally posted by JHartman View PostYes , I had heard the BMW 135 i calipers had their issues . I wanted to see if anyone had fitted other OEM Brembos on CSL rotors ? I was thinking like GM ( Corvette or Cadillac ) or Audi or VW .
