I guess the e39 definitely peaked for now until the next push upwards which could be awhile. I wonder if our e46 m3s will be in that range in a short time. I would be very sad happy.

I'm surprised the e36 m3 isn't on the list. I suppose I saw it on there at some point. They appear to have nearly reached price parity with standard e46 m3s. For example, a 70,000 mile car in black and the least desirable year sold for 24k. Used car prices appear inflated across the board now, though I'm not sure how much that would apply to cars like this, which have reasons to rise in value regardless.

Who knows what will happen as these things fade into history. On one hand, there's a lot of competition to keep them from rising ever higher, there has to be a ceiling. They're creeping into territory occupied by lots of exciting stuff. 911, Viper, Esprit, NSX... On the other, all these cars are unique, I can't really say the M3 is anything like any of those cars, and the driver's car is becoming extinct in general. Think about the fact that there's not only no stick shift Corvette, but no Gt350 anymore. What's even left in the classic sports car sense? I like the new Miata, the GT3, and, well, that's about it.

EAG isn't really going to be a great representation of the overall market for any of these cars, since they're trying to deal with only the top condition cars on their site.

Historically their prices have been good indicators of where the market is headed. Whether that’s by chance or as a result, I don’t know. I remember when people thought a $30k list price for a clean E46 M3 on there was insane, now that’s widely accepted as where the cars are.

I have a 2002 slicktop and all I want to do is enjoy it. The creeping value is making parts harder to source and more expensive. I am not into this car because of it’s “investment” potential.

And keep in mind this is Quarterly movement in price, not value... but yeah, E46M Coupes are on the move, particularly in 6MT fitment.... insiders and hardcore enthusiasts say the E46M and E39M were the last ones to buy... I think that has much to do with what we're seeing... no one is talking about anything that came after that era... and not just because they're too new.

Both E36 and E39 on the list, if you click on the link. They just didn't go up or down in Q1 2021.

I think there is a divide between the E9X M3 to the F8X M3/4. You'll pay more for an E9X M3 than an F8X with comparable miles right now which is...very surprising. At end of the E9X production, only ragged out cars went for less than $30k.

I think the E46 bottomed out when I bought mine in 2013, paid $10,500 for a meh Red/Red 6MT coupe with 98k. That car has doubled in price today. S54s are getting expensive...I used to be able to score complete drop ins for less than $3000 with less than 120k miles. Now...$4k-ish.

Expect the cleans ones to continue upward as less inventory is available. I think quite a few are cashing in or have already this past few years. A lot of those buyers will hold on to them which will lead to less inventory. I don’t think they will ever get to a point where none are available but less means higher prices for the most part.

Pretty crazy to think that my car could be worth $10-20k more than I paid for it a few years ago.

Consider this thing sold for 13,250. A few years ago that thing is a 5k car, max. The hilarious part is the last comment by the seller which notes that two 16 year old boys bought it, flew out to pick it up, and then drove 9 hours back home. Hilarious.

A 2002 48k mile tiag convertible with dove grey just went for $29,250.... say what? When I was convertible shopping a few years ago I had my pick of tiag convertibles all day long with similar mileage for 15 to 18k.

Think I'm kidding? Here is 2003 manual tiag with imola interior and 53k miles that sold in 2017 for the grand sum of $15,500.

I told him to go right ahead, which was funny to me because I had just graduated when the car was released and was doing the same thing over my baseball coach's Laguna Seca Blue.

I understand the sentiment that for those of us that plan to keep it forever, it really just causes problems. I'm one of those people that plans to keep it, but if the value ends up high enough where I can kinda swap it for a GT3, that will be hard to resist. It's the same as my property value going up, I don't plan to move so all that does is make me pay more in taxes.
I think that is the problem though. I fear there is so much gd money out there that as the e46 price climbs, that GT3 will become triple what it's worth now. Funny though, the past year my car gotten more attention than it did all years prior combined, maybe I will invest in that new paint job...

I consider 2017 (the 15 year mark) the bottoming out for these cars... I actually remember this 2003 because it was about the same color and spec as mine, when I bought (except mine was an ‘05 and had the HK Nav and 19” forged wheels)... this car was STOLEN in 2017... $22k car all day long IMO... that was about the time I “broke even” on my car... after that, I could sell it for roughly what I paid for it, and I quit tracking values...

15 years to the bottom of the depreciation curve is about right these days... on my ‘92 MB 500E it was 20 years... so I think the whole internet sensation of Young Classics is bringing that bottom forward for E46M cars... and raising the value curve for any and everything deemed a Young Classic.

I so desperately want a spare S54 engine that I can slowly rebuild just incase, along with a few other major components to have on hand. I plan to keep this car forever and don't want to have fork over stupid money for an engine/trans etc. should it come to that 10 years from now.
