I'm not surprised since a couple of tiag with grey interior convertibles have hit almost 30k in the last couple of weeks. Insane.

And the most expensive convertible on BAT was also an imola red (also super low mileage which didn't hurt).

Bid for the chance to own a 12k-Mile 2001 BMW M3 Convertible 6-Speed at auction with Bring a Trailer, the home of the best vintage and classic cars online. Lot #23,820.

I expected around 55k which I think is fair price for this car, but this is not first time when buyers surprised me with high price . Definitely seller's market at this moment. Low mileage cars are selling for around 50% more than 1-2 years ago . I am curious if "big dogs" expect inflation after all " stupid free money" from government or we have currently peak on the market because people can't spend money for traveling around the world, eating in expensive restaurant etc, so they found another way to make them happy.

I’m sure pretty much all of you know but if you type e46 M3 in the search field, below the current listings, you get a graph of historical results. Can mouse over the dots for a quick view or click them for the listing.

There is no rational justification for that price, though. Yes, low miles, 6MT, but honestly, Imola is not THAT rare. Nothing bulletproofed (I realize the miles), so its likely one man desire to own original condition Imola/Imola with low miles so they could put it on a pedestal to look at it. That or severe case of FOMO.

Stock is the way to go if you want to realize the most money someday. I am hesitant doing topside reinforcement for just this reason, but the other half of me says screw it.

Most people will take MB AMG’s or BMW M’s engineering and construction over yours, mine or whoever’s they don’t know. Even if they’re going to do the same work, they’d rather commission and oversee it themselves. Hence the stock premium. This is still crazy money. But a preference for stock unmodified cars is anything but IMO. Some “tasteful” and “appropriate” mods tend to pass, but what’s tasteful and appropriate is any Buyer’s decision. And even then it needs to be fully and easily reversible... like before sale reversible, and reversed. I know a lot of people buy these specifically to mod them. That’s one of the reasons I bought mine — just in case I wanted to. I already have three “unmodifiable” cars (says the market). And on this one, I ended up deciding it’s better off left stock with software and other minor tweaks.

I don't necessarily disagree with you on the "some day" side, but so far the record holder is pretty modified.

Yea, these were my thoughts in regards to down the line, maybe 10-15 years from now. I would imagine originality would be valued more than mods that are currently in style.

That car was even more modified when the seller got it.

It was crazy to watch, but LSB has a crazy tax.

Was driving into work this morning in Boston, and low and behold an 01 LSB/Gray parked in the South End. I almost broke my neck, that color draws attention like no other.

In 15 years, values may be tanking because gas cars are becoming seriously inconvenient (as EVs take over there will be less gas stations, less gas stations hurry the EV takeover, hurried EV takeover means even less gas stations, etc).

There is one other IMO— Phoenix yellow. More next breaking, but less universally agreed to be good looking 😜

Did that LSB actually sell for $90k? If you read the comments, the winning bidder did not complete the deal, and someone else bought the car.
