Since my Harmonic Damper is now 25 years old, I do not want to wait until it fails due to rubber cracks and takes my engine with it.
Why am I considering this unit?
- my engine is built for higher rpms than stock, the ATI damper is as well.
- the stock units are getting expensive
There's only two real options out right now, a custom adapter kit for a standard ATI Damper and the VAC Unit. The VAC Unit is a plug and play that can be ordered with standard, underdrive, or overdrive crank pulley. The other option requires the installation of an entire pulley kit along with it, since the ATI standard damper is also the crank pulley, but has a considerably larger diameter than the stock S54 pulley. Also it mounts slightly longer towards the front, thereby also requiring the other pulleys to be adjusted accordingly.
Hence I am going to get the VAC Unit. I know they are not very popular on this forum (to put it mildly), so please refrain yourself from posting how much you don't like VAC. Only respond if you intend to participate or have serious questions.
I am also ignoring the general consensus on VAC because I have direct feedback from MK here in Germany on these units. Besides selling parts, he also builds engines and supports race teams. He has been using these for years without any issues and puts them into every engine he builds. I was also told it shows an 8HP increase on the dyno vs the stock damper, though I don't really know how a damper will do that, so take that with a grain of salt.
To the conditions:
VAC currently offers 10% as part of black friday sales on this unit as well. One of my friends here also wants one, so we are at 2 pieces and will get an additional 2%. If we are getting another one to jump in, we will be getting an additional 5% (15% total).
Regular price: €956,96
Price with total discount: €813,40
Being located in Germany the website shows my pricing in Euro, but the discount percentage will be the same if yours shows in USD.
Please let me know if you are interested. If there's more than one I will call again to see if I can get more discount possible, but for the sake of getting this done quickly please consider the 15% discount for jumping in. I will place my order at the end of next week, so response deadline is the end of November 27th.
