    Obioban/Vodyk's black on black 2008 e60 M5

This car belonged to a good friend of mine, Charles (username on the forums was Vodyk), that died ~10 years ago. I spent a lot of time working with him on it back in the day. When he died, his parents took over ownership of it.

Last week his dad called me to say that the rod bearings were failing and he was going to put the car up for auction, unless I wanted to buy it. So, I bought it.

Current mods, per my somewhat hazy memory from a decade ago:
    Supersprint/Evolve long tube Headers
    Dinan Muffler
    Dinan 3.91 Diff
    Evosport Pulleys
    Intake scoops and blockoff plate
    BMC Filter
    Evolve Alpha N tune

    KWV3 coilovers

    18 x 9.5" Apex EC7s

    Euro MDM tuning
    Euro SMG flash

Pictures at pickup and when I got it home:

I made a pretty large parts order, which I'm told will take 4-6 weeks to arrive... so I don't expect to have this car on the road any time soon. With the rod bearings on their way out, any mile could be the one that kills the crank, so it'll be parked for a bit.

    Parts ordered:

-Everything in the FCP e60 M5 rod bearing service kit
    -engine mounts
    -power steering expansion hose
    -oil change kit
    -updated oil squirters
-MTFLT2 (well, I already own a couple gallons of this, so will be taking it out of my supply)
    -OE diff fluid change kit
    -brake fluid
    -power steering fluid

I don't intend to modify this car very much.

Can't wait to see this unfold. Super sad about losing your friend way to early in life. Agree with everyone else - this car has found the right home.

Dyno from ~10 years ago, before I did cams, airbox, or oversized section 2 on the M3.

              My M3 (red), a friends modified e39 M5 (blue), and this e60 M5 (black).

                RIP Charles

My favorite BMW of all time! It came into good hands with you Ian!

                Sooner or later I will have a E60 M5!

Edit: a friend just strokered+cammed his E60 6MT. 535whp on a dynojet, pump fuel etc.

I feeling hopeful that maybe the S85's reliability reputation has more to do with the earlier versions than the later versions. I had no idea how many production cycle updates they had for it, most of which were in place by 2008. Of those that aren't the big ones will be addressed during the rod bearing job (bearing update and oil squirter update).

Most of the other stuff in the final update seems like it was to create more part sharing between s65 and s85, so hopefully that was more for consolidating costs than actual improvement :P

Both my e39M and e60M are the first month of production of all the important updates , weirdly.

Having owned multiple Bangle era cars in the past including e90 and e61, I never understood the the public perception of the stylings dislikes. They’re beautiful cars, and as Chris Bangle mentioned himself - these cars need to be seen in person. My e61 is sitting at 225k miles, the interior has held up waaaaaaay better than my m3 at less than half of the mileage.

This is super nice. Congrats on yet another ///M car.
                        Just some old shitty cars.

Better buy an extra set of rear tires I'm thinking you're going to need them
