Ok, thanks, I think mine is set-up correctly but maybe I'll check again and make sure I didn't mess something up.

Ok, so I'm super green here. I have a Bimmergeeks cable and Windows laptop. I want to be able to code for ZCP/CSL brakes, steering rack, and so on. I went to NCS expert website and I can't figure out what I'm looking for to purchase/download. Any insight is appreciated. Seems one can purchase coding files, guides--am I just not understanding how they package the product? I impulse purchased a Creader tool from Amazon, but can't deduce if that will "code" and if it's maybe better to send it back.

I'm getting same VIN faulty message as Ramps Did you figure it out? My cable is good, INPA reads the car, COM1 and latency settings check out. Making progress, this will be fun when I figure out. Any thoughts appreciated.

I am also getting this same message. I have an 06/'02 build date M3 and when I tried to read the AKMB module in NCS Expert, I get the same message. Do you also get an error reading the Instrument Cluster Module in INPA despite all other modules being able to be read?

              my observation:
Old NCSexper doesn't work at Win x 64bit, because of NTVDMs is not present.
New NCSexper not working on E46

Late ans but I hope this helps others.
If the screen shows a bunch of VIN faulty messages when you tried to read the selected module, this mostly is caused by bad communication from pc to the module (the same obd cable has the error when using INPA to read that same module too). Most of the time it's due to the switch on the cable connector that not connecting pin7 and pin8. Move the switch around and test in INPA to make sure it can access EWS or KMB cluster, then try NCS expert again.

Check the COM port #. should match - usually 1, though you can make it anything you want. Device properties.

As far as windows version, the tools and drivers should work fine wirh win10, but you probably have to install and run programs in administrative moden (win 7)

Just google search BMW standard tools. The ones from bimmergeeks seems best. You'll find download links like mega or torrent. I can link you if you have trouble. It has install instructions so it'll play nice with win10 and x64.

Have you updated NCS with the proper E46 daten folder? It seems like whatever suite of standard tools you download will have the datens only for the chassis that matches the forum you found the links on. Well, if it was for an e39 or e60 or e90, you won't have the E46 files.

You can also check the OBD ini file to make sure it's showing COM 1, not just the cable device properties.

You don't need Win 7, but you do need to install the software suite as administrator with win 7 compatibility.

I would remove the program from windows and delete all the folders and start over. Since it's for E46, I would suggest this software suite:

I installed it last night on win 10 x64 and it's working fine. The datens are older, but so is the car, so should be good to go. I just updated datens for my e90.

                            Use this installer:

This thread describes how I install and configure BMW Standard Tools, the suite of BMW software that includes INPA, NCS Expert, WinKFP, Tool32. I have my own custom way of doing this that is the shortest and simplest steps I could figure out. This set up is for E46 only. What is included...

Choose std: obd for your dcan cable.

                              NCSEXPER Ver3 works under Win7 on E46 perfectly, Ver4 didn't work
