Info Request - Manual Vertical Aim Control Retrofit

    Hi guys!

As the title states, I have been keen on doing a manual vertical aim control retrofit on my E46 Coupe w/ factory halogens.

AFAIK, this seems like a pretty straight forward retrofit (please let me know if I am leaving some steps out):
    • Acquire and code new lcm w/ aim control feature
    • acquire stepper motors/source euro halogen headlights
    • wire motors to LCM harness
    • job done
I do have one question though: Do ALL halogen equipped euro spec 3 series come standard with vertical aim control? In other words, If its not a xenon car, will the car automatically come with halogen lights w/ manual vertical aim control?

    Thanks all,

So a US halogen car has no way to adjust the headlights?

And yes, all euro halogen cars have the little wheel.

I am sure you have researched this, but I would just start by just changing the LCM, I think the wiring and hardware in the lights might already be there? I could be completely wrong of course.

The only way of adjusting the headlights for a USDM car are the knobs on the headlights themselves. I remember taking apart a set of US halogens and finding the stepper motor missing. So either, I buy new vertical aim stepper motors to integrate into my current headlights OR source euro halogens with the vertical aim motors already installed.

I am in Europe, could help you and ship you some used or brand new euro halogens for sure.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind when I get around to it. There are other things right now for the car that are taking priority lol.

That he did. I made a general inquiry post on FB and he showed me his retrofit using Xenons instead. Always a treat seeing him post about his projects.

Oh my bad, completely missed that you wanted to do this with halogens
