Hello people coming from CSL Register! Here's what's going on with the forum merge...

We have the database from CSL Register, and are working on getting it integrated into NAM3Forum (the CSL register threads, users, etc).

It's proving to be a bit trickier than expected, as there's no Vbulletin made flow for this-- Liam is having to write code to merge users, sub forums, etc.

While that's going, we'd still like you to have somewhere to post-- so, as a short term measure, created this sub forum. It'll be merged into the CSL Register general discussion when we get the database moved over (unless there's few enough threads that we can manually move them to more appropriate locations).

Good to have this section, but really it's the historical knowledge that will be great to have access to (not to rush you Liam, having run a bunch of data migrations in my time I have a keen appreciation for how much work is involved!). I've had several times in the last few months I've gone to find something I've previously seen on cslregister only to remember it's down!

On a related note, I'm pretty sure you're doing frequent (nightly?) local backups of the forum, liam821, right?

Can we access those anywhere? Would be cool to set up some semi-regular backup of the backups on my home server. Others could join in as well, for a more distributed approach to this.

We do, however, they include email/username/passwords etc so it's not exactly something I can share. Also the database is in VBulletin format, which isn't open source. I like where you're going though. I would love to be able to export all the technical data into a sharable format.

With all that said, if something does happens to me Obioban and terra also have all the access and have instructions from me on how to get it all running again.

It could even be worth having a few people occasionally pull an encrypted backup. They wouldn't be able to access the data, but would be providing redundancy by storing the data in another physical location/state/country. The ability to access could remain with the existing trusted group.
