MFactory Carbon fiber drive shaft photos

    Hey folks,

I signed up and paid to be a tester for the MFactory carbon fiber driveshaft for a slight discount through EuroConnex. I'm not under any obligation to do anything really. I offered to provide feedback after I get it installed, which I will next month when I drop off my car with DanAvon7.

Communication with Michael, my contact from MFactory, was very responsive. Since payment, I received the item from Asia within a week. My carbon DS is a test unit which they will cover if any updates/changes need to be made, excluding labor.

Until I get it installed, all I have are photos to share.

Looking forward to it. I will set up the Group Buy listing for 1st batch E46 M3 owners. There will be 20x limited spots at introductory pricing. No invoicing until testing is done and approved.

Super fancy, any idea of the weight differences between factory and the CF version above?

The OE weights 18 lbs. This weights 11 lbs.

My only concern would be longevity under stress.

It's using the same locking flange technology as on the E9X M3 driveshafts that have been around for multiple years and in large quantities. The flange was the downfall of the other company that tried to get into carbon driveshafts for the E46: it would vibrate and unglue - leading to catastrophic failure of the driveshaft.

MFactory also warranties these for 1 year.

Is the radius increased over stock?

I seem to remember some other cf driveshaft for this car was lighter, but also bigger, which ended up negating any decrease in moment of inertia brought on by the weight savings.

It is, but as the original BETA tester guy, I can tell you that there is still a difference that you can feel between this and a stock driveshaft! There is def more eagerness to rev and it feels similar to going to U/D pulleys, or a ltwt flywheel.

Confirmed actual weight to be 11 lbs.

Also the diameter is 78.23 mm.

One interesting observation is that I didn't find any balance weights.

Some updated pictures from Ray - it's finally installed

Notice the balancing done by MFactory.

Will they do a CF driveshaft for those who've swapped to the shorter ZF 5-speed transmission?
