Mine basically does beach duty here and there. I bought all weathers and have new OEM mats in a box. I too believe the SMG deduct is just a current day phase. And while I saw prices rising 3 or 4 years ago, they seem to have plateaued 3-6 months ago, at least for now. We shall see.

imo there's a chance the E46 M3 will see some preference over E30 because it has significantly better crash worthiness while still preserving the OG bmw engineering

This is definitely something that the UK started to experience. The prices there got so low for a while that lots got snapped up, tuned, and wrecked, between that and those that get salt damaged without a restore there is a slow reduction in the number available.

I can't convince myself to buy a pre 2000s car and it's mainly for safety reasons

2003.5 differences that I know of.

- Different trunk upper trim piece
- MK60 vs. MK20 ABS
- LED tail lights

Weird because my 2003 (not .5) had pre-facelift tails but has MK60. It's a Sept '02 production which is when they switched to MK60 IIRC.

My point was this: do you think those small differences warrant almost a $10k difference ($24.7 vs 34.2) for a Condition #3 car? Or a $22k difference ($57.5 vs 79.5) for a #1?

For the record, I have a July 2004 slicktop 6MT, so I'm not complaining, but at the same time, I am skeptical that my car would be worth that much more.

I did get the same feeling too. That the price differences seem a bit exaggerated. But it could be more of how Hagerty sees the mkt heading in the future where collectors become more selective/discriminating

I bought an 05 TiAg 6 speed with 67K on the clock for $20K in 2018. I feel like I got among the last of the "good deals". I think my car would easily be a ~25k car with that mileage now (sadly I'm up to 84K now)

I believe an 05/06 competition with under 100k miles will sell for more than any e30 M3. There’s still time for that to happen, but it will happen sooner.

Not sure about USA - but early Euro spec cars had the bearing recall. And as noted MK60 is not an LCI update. IMO sans MK60, 2003.5 is meaningless.

Its not meaningless. Better optics with updated headlights, LED taillights, new 19" wheel design, new trunk lid design, different colors not available before, latests updates on the engine and gearbox, small interior updates, several new options - like rear sunshades, etc - it all adds up to just overall better values for some people. Not to mention the fact that the actual cars are younger.
