Mini DIY: How to reuse stock throttle body clamps

Just found this video showing how to remove and reinstall the stock throttle body clamps.

I've resued mine tens of times and never had any issues. I've found that once you get the hang of them, they're just as easy to take on and off as worm clamps. But the stock ones will never interfere with your throttle linkage.

You can use a tool like the one used in the video, but I just use regular needle nose pliers.

Additionally, I've found that clocking the clamps in the following fashion will give the best access for the next time they need to come off. No need to remove the fuel or air rails if they're clocked like this. It does help to disconnect the idle air valve connector and move it out of the way, though.

Note: Cylinder 6 clamp is on backwards compared to the others. I've found it makes it easier to get on and off.

    Hopefully this helps someone!

I've always wondered why people go to those ugly worm style hose clamps when these can be re-used so easily. On the other side all you need is CV boot type pliers to crimp down the boots to your new CSL intake and there's really not going to be a reason to ever have to mess with them again for quite some time if ever.
    Keep it OEM people!

Totally agree. These clamps are very easy on/off and reusable.

These clamps are the biggest PITA until you figure out how to use them. Now they are amazing. haha

PSA - don't make the same mistake I did when reinstalling these. Back in 2017, I had the correct pliers and easily removed and reinstalled the stock clamps from the factory positions when I cleaned my stuck throttle bodies. But when I went to remove them again last night, the same pliers could no longer reach the release points on most of the clamps. My mistake was installing with the pliers on the holes circled in red instead of the ones in green (the ones used to release). At the time I thought I was being smart not needing to push the clamps down with my finger while using the pliers with my other hand, but this left the release points clocked over, just out of reach. It took a lot of time and swearing using different pliers and other tools on each clamp to get to finally get 4 of them off without damage. I noticed one of them was already unclamped (I guess I didn't clamp it properly, which worked out for me), but the last one closest to the firewall has been impossible to reach with anything I have. So I gave up in frustration before I tried to use something that would cause irreparable damage (gas and a match). For some reason I had it in my mind that these clamps were unobtanium now, but I see that they're still available and only a few bucks, so I'm just going to pry the last one off with a screwdriver and be done with it.

I think I used this same video when changing my starter last year, was really easy with the proper tool. Right tool for the job always makes life easier and reviewing the steps of course 😂
